The last time you'll see her.
  • One of the first things you do in the game is say goodbye your mother, who's now dying from the Malichor after already suffering severe chronic pain and losing her sight. One of the reasons you're setting off for the island is to find a cure, but you both know that she won't live to receive it.
    • Even worse? You don't even find the cure in any non-golden ending..
  • Watching Siora wail in grief over the massacre of her people and the death of her mother, and then having to wade through all that bureaucracy with her just to get her mother's body back.
  • Constantin succumbing to the Malichor. He has a full-blown panic attack in the middle of the palace and collapses weeping in your arms. You know you've already lost your mother, and now you have to watch your cousin deteriorate the same way.
  • De Sardet's reaction to The Reveal is pretty rough — It's obvious in their voice how badly shaken (bordering on horrified) they are about this, and you can very clearly hear Lord De Sardet at least scoff "Quite!" in disgust(?) when fuming to Constantin that he is not, in fact, "the spitting image of (his) dead father, lost during an expedition". Kinda makes you wonder if that Cooldown Hug from a minute ago was only meant for Constantin.
  • Watching the Tierna Harh Cadachtas run from you in fear. You know your intentions are pure, but the abuses her people suffered from the other colonists and the fact that she's apparently at constant risk of being kidnapped have left her constantly on edge. You see for yourself that her fears are completely justified when a Bridge Alliance spy hunts her down like an animal and openly admits to you that he plans to vivisect her in persuit of a cure for the Malichor. If nothing else, you at least get to fight and kill the prick.
    • Her weeping for the guardian that died trying to protect her. Just the mix of sadness, fear and desperation, knowing that it's all over for her.
    • The reason she loathes the colonists is because her companion was killed in a skirmish against them, and she wishes she could have died alongside her.
  • The death of Sergeant Franz. He did everything he could to atone for his sins, but was beaten to death for snitching.
  • It isn't bad enough that your biological mother was kidnapped from her island, but by all accounts she was a brilliant healer and beloved by all who knew her, and she died alone, afraid and suffering.
  • The assault of a native in Thélème, Cera's torture at the hands of the Bridge Alliance, everything Doctor Asili does. The fact that the natives are treated with so little respect by the people who exploit their land and harm their people makes siding with Derdre and driving away all colonists seem more than reasonable.
  • De Sardet having to kill Constantin, who they've known and loved their whole life and sworn to protect, when he loses his mind and becomes a threat to everyone and everything. Even if the player doesn't care all that much about Constatin, De Sardet obviously does — Even after finding out they aren't biologically related, they still claim they love him like a brother when begging the natives for help finding him when he disappears. The way they gently lay his corpse on the ground and wish him "Good night, sweet prince" before collapsing next to him in complete physical and emotional exhaustion as the camera slowly zooms out really drives home how absolutely crushing this has been for them.
    • Even the Baro, freed from Constantin's thrall, stares at them for a few seconds in what looks almost like pity before it leaves them to rejoin En on míl frichtimen.
