Batou mentions that his job with Section 9 is the only thing that keeps him going after he got his new eyes. While the manga (and the various anime adaptations) imply that Batou has no immediate family to speak of, his conversation with the Major just makes the sense powerful and sad to hear.
Another Batou moment with the new eyes: He asks the Major to feed his dogs for him, because he's afraid the new eyes will scare them.
Innocent Bystander Lee Cunningham finds out that the memories of his family are implanted lies and that he was used to kill someone. Then he kills himself.
After we learn that Kuze is a Tragic Monster whose life was destroyed by Hanka Corp to an even greater extent than the Major's she races to reach him before Cutter's hit team does. She is just seconds too late to save him and he gets sniped after sharing a few parting words with her. Major screams a Big "NO!" at losing what was left of her forgotten childhood friend and the only other cyborg like her in the world.
