Per wiki policy, Spoilers Off applies here and all spoilers are unmarked. You Have Been Warned.

Considering anyone not a main character is dead, this is something of a given.

  • Any scene when the guests finally realize that they are dead and come to regret what they've done (or haven't done) leading up to their deaths.
  • In Episode 1, Machiko decides to lie that she never actually loved her husband so he wouldn't feel guilty about killing her and her unborn baby in a car accident.
  • In Episode 4, the players both break down in tears by the end:
    • Misaki for being murdered just as her life with her beloved children seemed to be getting better after going through three abusive husbands.
    • Yosuke for realizing he took his life while never calling his kind stepmother mom who really just wanted him to accept her. Yosuke's step-mother's reaction in the ambulance before he dies doesn't help - she may not have been the one to discover his body, but she sure as hell saw the effects of the fall. Even though Yosuke was consistently cold and distant, his step-mother still cared a lot for him and just wanted to connect with him. Now that will never happen, and she may even blame herself for Yosuke's suicide.
  • The entirety of episode 9, especially the ending:
    • Decim offers Shimada to torture Tatsumi by having him stab through the puck pieces that are synced with Tatsumi's organs if he wants to take revenge on him for not doing anything while his sister was being assaulted. Realizing Decim's test will center on whether Shimada gives in to his fury and 'kills' Tatsumi, the Black-Haired Woman desperately begs him not to submit to darkness, ripping into Decim for how cruel and pointless his tests are while pleading with Shimada to think of his sister. Shimada relaxes... only for Tatsumi to cruelly give a final twist of the knife. The ending theme plays as Shimada stabs the final pucks while Tatsumi flails in extreme pain and the Black-Haired Woman tearfully tries to restrain him, and the credits show images of him with the beloved sister he'll never see again, and Shimada gives a broken smile, declaring that he'll protect Sae. The credits then end with Shimada breaking the last puck and Tatsumi's limp body lying in a pool of blood. The episode ends with a heartbroken Black-Haired Woman punching Decim's chest, brokenly telling him how wrong he is about human nature.
      • What makes this last part so heartbreaking is the lyrical resonance - the moment Shimada stabs the pile of pucks, thereby torturing Tatsumi to 'death', the singer whispers "I don't want to destroy life - remember". At that point the ED explodes into the chorus ("I'm not gonna make it")... and when coupled with the anguished, conflicted expression on Shimada's face and the sight of Tatsumi writhing in pain, the viewer realizes with a sense of dread that Decim's machinations all but ensured Shimada would be consumed by pure anger and hate, thereby dooming him to the Void.
    • Also, consider how Sae is going to feel when she finds out that not only is her brother dead, his body was found atop another man's dead body, in a room with another dead man, holding the murder weapon. She did want revenge, but probably not like this. Now she's alone, without her parents or her brother, recovering from a violent assault that will likely severely damage her psyche for years. Even worse that the last shot of the episode is the icon above one of the elevators leading to the void. It doesn't show who is sent to the void or for reincarnation. Because of this, it's very most likely that both Shimada and Tatsumi were sent to the void, meaning that Shimada will never see Sae again as the Black-Haired Woman said he would.
      • Crossing into Fridge Brilliance (or Fridge Horror), but pay close attention to the shot of Sae in front of the television during the ED - she's eating dinner alone and appears to have some kind of bandage wrapping below her ear, strongly implying that she's just been released from the hospital. What if the reason her brother isn't having dinner with her is because he was killed just a few hours prior, and the television program she's viewing has just been interrupted by a 'breaking news' bulletin regarding a certain triple homicide?
    • The saddest thing is that this ending could have been avoided had Decim not offered Shimada the option of revenge to begin with. It was clear that Tatsumi was beyond redemption, but by offering the pucks to Shimada and not shutting up Tatsumi he only allowed for Shimada himself to become corrupted.
  • The overall atmosphere of episode 10 feels like this. It comes after such an explosive, dramatic and depressing episode yet has a rather somber and soothing tone, which almost feels like the moment of calm people get after an emotional outburst.
    • Sachiko's role in the episode is a big counter to the behavior of the previous guests, and she serves to soften Decim's relationship with his assistant, who finally remembers her name - Chiyuki - and remembers being read a story by her mother as a child. Afterwards, she doubles over and starts sobbing, quietly calling out for her mother who seemed to have a good relationship with her, and the girl's reaction to this memory and her loss certainly matches the reactions of many viewers.
    • Meanwhile, while the episode ends on a positive note and Sachiko is sent for reincarnation, it's much worse when you realize that she was the wife of the old man from "Death Billiards". The one that went to the void (possibly of his own will). Which means that even though she was sent for reincarnation, she will NEVER see her husband again.
  • Episode 11:
    • More of the assistant's past is shown, and it is revealed she has always wanted to be a figure skater since she was a child. Her dream has become true as she became really popular and successful until she injured her knee so badly that she cannot skate anymore. Since then, she became depressed and eventually killed herself.
    • The ending has both Mayu and Harada sent to the void - and because Ginti tricks Mayu into thinking she can bring Harada back, on top of that.
  • Episode 12, pretty much all the scenes between Decim and his assistant.
    • Blink and you'll miss it, but Mayu's teddy bear hairband can be seen along with the large pile of dummies.
    • Chiyuki is given a test where she can sacrifice someone in exchange for being returned to life. Chiyuki, realizing the effect her suicide had on her mother, breaks down apologizing and almost gives up before realizing sacrificing someone else will result in someone else being sad. Decim breaks down after experiencing sorrow for what he did to Chiyuki, showing the most emotion he's shown all series.
    • In the end, Decim and his assistant part ways as she is finally sent away to reincarnation. They share a smile and end on good terms but their goodbyes are so painfully bittersweet.
