- The introduction features the narrator (as a child by the time the game's events take place) riding his bicycle to to school before observing Yellow 13 dogfighting against an enemy aircraft. Upon being shot down, the latter ejected while the aircraft crashes directly into the boy's home, where his parents were living (as pictured to the right). It's one of the good examples showing that War Is Hell.
- While featuring a Darker and Edgier tone compared to the last three installments, the game frequently informs you that you're killing an orphan's best friends (the "Yellow Squadron" that you've encountered in the game as well, which means they'll make you start getting more desperate, then you realize you're getting desperate for a chance to kill said orphan's friends). However, the biggest Player Punch is when you shoot down Yellow 13, who manages to chuck the late Yellow 4's handkerchief out his window before he dies. Then, the kid writes you a letter asking about him.
- Also, earlier in the same game: "Yellow 13 here. Did anyone see 4 get out?"
- The final cutscene with the now-grown kid writing the letter, and the shot of the photograph of him, the barkeep's daughter, 13, 4, and puppy, all together and looking happy, gets you right the feels.
