While Supa Strikas' focuses on Soccer/Football, the series seems to enjoy making reference to other media.

- In "El Matador Finds Himself", the holographic message of El Matador created by Coach to convince the real El Matador caps off with "Help me El Matador, only I am my only hope".
- In "How To Get a Header in the Super League", during Shakes training with the Battering Ram. He asks if he isn't a little too short to be a headering coach.
- In the Cold Open for "Total Replay" when Shakes strikes for the goal despite El Matador asking to be passed the ball. Matadoe disparagingly calls him "Han Solo".
- Big Bo lives in a massive mansion, has a butler named Albert, and also has a secret cave underneath the mansion named the "Goalie Cave". A very clearcut reference to a very famous DC Billionaire Superhero. Just without the dark brooding angst and emotional baggage of deceased parents.
