Shout Out / Future Man

Go To

  • Whenever Josh notices a wrinkle in the timeline based on his actions, a particular musical chord plays, almost exactly the same as in Back to the Future.
  • The James Cameron Compound is a smart house managed by an AI called SIGORN-E. She is programmed to give many Cameron related nods in her dialogue, to the point that even she gets disgusted.
  • Wolf's eventual underground restaurant is named after his alias, Cory Wolfhart, but it's hard not to see a nod to Wolfgang Puck as well.
    • Speaking of the restaurant, it eventually comes crashing down when Wolf introduces a new experience to his guests they cannot fully embrace: "The Truffledome - two men enter, one man leave."
    • Among Wolf's many guests, he briefly entertains a (hooded) Julia Roberts, wearing the same red dress and white gloves from Pretty Woman.
  • Josh gives an anachronistic performance at a dance, giving influence to its later creator, just like Marty McFly in Back to the Future, except instead of "Johnny B. Goode" and Chuck Berry, it's the Moonwalk and Tito Jackson.
  • The initial plot, sending a video game back in time as a training simulator, is a wholesale reference to The Last Starfighter, which Josh lampshades.
  • Humans being unable to have children in the future is a reference to Children of Men, which Josh also explicitly namedrops.
  • Much of Season 2, involving uploading people's consciousness into a virtual computer is a large reference to The Matrix.
  • The Ultra-Max prison and the reveal of the Amusement Park of Doom could be a reference to Deadman Wonderland.
  • The date and location subtitles are done in the classic Terminator font.
