Shout Out / Dragon Ball Z: Dynasty

Go To

  • Like many DBZ fics, there are plenty of references to Dragon Ball Z Abridged. An example is how many of Chiaotzu's Attacks in the Cell Games are Pokémon moves (see below) being this to Nappa mistaking Chiaotzu for a Pokémon.
  • At the end of chapter 55, when she's in a Karaoke Bar with Vegeta, Raditz and Launch, Bulma sings "Love Dramatic", the opening song of Kaguya-sama: Love Is War's first season. They go to the same bar again during chapter 93, and they sing "Daddy Daddy Do", the opening song of the second season.
  • Given the previous point, Chichi naming her daughter Chika might be a reference to Chika Fujiwara, a main character in the above mentioned manga/anime.
  • King Cold's "Pleasure" form is a clear homage to a certain kaiju.
  • During the Beach Episode, Bardock spends all the time sitting on a beach chair while repeating "Nope, not gettin outta this chair".
  • During chapter 75, 17 gets into a fight with a pair of punks named Deuce and Domino.
  • At the end of chapter 95, there's a scene that references Cell's nightmare of becoming "Cellin" after absorbing Krillin from the game Dragon Ball Z: Budokai. Also in that dream, Tien, Yamcha and Chiaotzu are expies of the Pillar Men.
  • During the Cell Games, one of Tien's attacks is called Thunder Cross Split Attack. Also, most of Chiaotzu's attacks during that fight are named after Pokémon attacks.
  • After being rebuilt by the two Bulmas, 16's body is now made of nanomachines that react in response to trauma.
  • In the beginning of Vegeta's flashback in chapter 104, he remembers himself and his brother Tarble as kids getting kidnapped by Skuxxoids, who are a species from the Transformers universe.
  • In chapter 107, Jimmy Firecracker mentions that the Ember Island Players from Avatar: The Last Airbender will be making a play based on Mr Satan's victory in the Cell games.
  • During 18 and Krillin's fight with Iryokago, one of 18’s moves was called Prominence Burn, which is one of Enji Todoroki/Endeavor's, a character from My Hero Academia, signature moves.
  • The name of Raditz's unique Oozaru transformation is called Oozaru Force.
  • Goku's new techniques, known as Turtle Style: The Four Heavenly Virtues, are functionally influenced by Overdrives. This also includes the need to control one's breathing to properly execute them.
  • Gohan telling Bojack that he is "acting like a heavy bag. One that is about be pummeled by a skilled boxer.~" is a quote from Noriaki Kakyoin. Both characters are also voiced by Kyle Hebert.
  • In chapter 91.5, after breaking the gravity chamber, Vegeta has an exchange with present Bulma which at first directly mirrors Jotaro and DIO's “oh? You're approaching me?” scene from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders (in its anime form as translated by Crunchyroll), with Bulma as DIO and Vegeta as Jotaro.
  • Bardock and Gine's argument over him refusing to finish painting their chicken coop, with him later insulting the corn muffins she made for him are a direct reference to The Day Violence Died
  • During the fight with Bujin, Android 17 mentions a certain blue hedgehog from a movie he and 18 watched a while back.
  • When Android 18 meets Zangya, she calls her a skank. This is another reference to the Budokai games, where 18 will call Zangya that as part of their exchange if they're pitted against each other.
  • The names of Android 17 and 18's elemental Super Modes, Turbovolt and Terrablaze, are a play on Zekrom and Reshiram's abilities Teravolt and Turboblaze in Pokémon Black and White.
  • Bojack’s mention of Turles being an average fighter and a brilliant scientist is a reference to the infamous Ocean dub line when Vegeta explain the origins of the Power Ball to Goku, only switching out Turles to his brother Bardock.
  • When directing several Oozaru in battle, Cassava says "Apes together strong!".
  • The Deepdishians, an alien race that Cassava and her army fought and slayed, were based off of the Gorons. Another reference was Volvagia, who's depicted as a being as old as Majin Buu that has been worshipped by the Deepdishians as a diety for eons.
  • For the GPWL, Turles had Bardock go by Kid Gorgeous, then Kid Presentable, then Kid Gruesome, then Kid Bardock. The fighters he fights are Eye-Guy, Pirantis, Pumpkin Rapper, and King Sphinx.
  • When Gohan drops by Bulma's house in chapter 138, Trunks and the rest of the kids are watching One-Punch Man on TV.
  • Gine calls out to two of her students as Miss Ludenburg and Mr. Yamada. She's even referred to as the Ultimate Teacher.
