Chapter Titles

All the chapter names in Culture Shock are music references.
  • The name of the original first chapter, No Love is a Death Grips song.
  • The remastered first chapter's name, Same Person, Same Old Mistakes is a reference to the song by Tame Impala.
  • Chapter 3 is titled Power Flower.
  • Chapter 4 is titled Gangsta's Paradise, after the famous Coolio song.
  • Chapter 5 is titled In Your Eyes.
  • Chapter 6 is titled Double Helix.
  • Chapter 7 and 8 are titled Red Light, Green Light after the Da Baby song.
  • Chapter 9 is titled A Million Miles An Hour after the Nickelback song.
  • Chapter 10 is titled Street Spirit: Fade Out, after the Radiohead song.
  • Chapter 11 is titled Midnite Cruiser.
  • Chapter 12 is titled The Devil and Mr. Jones.
  • Chapter 13 is titled Bye Bye Birdie part 1.

  • Josiah Jones and his Stand, Starboy.
    • The sitting pose Josiah does in Chapter 6 is the same as the album cover of Starboy.
  • Davis Lombardi and his Stand, Tokyo Drifting.
  • Roller Mobster and his Stand, Leather Teeth.
  • The title of the part is a reference to the Death Grips song, Culture Shock.
  • The name of the prison that the remastered chapter 1 opens on, is called San Tropez.
  • The part's setting is named Midnight City, after the M83 song.
  • The man who threatens Josiah at gunpoint is named 21 Savage. Even having the number on his shirt.
  • The two characters introduced in the Chapter 3 are named Ignition and Skandalouz.
  • Skandalouz coins his philosophy as the Gangsta's Paradise, which is also the name of Chapter 4.
  • The character Yellowman is named after the Reggae artist.
  • White Iverson is named after the Post Malone song.
  • The race hosted by Double Helix is called the XO Tour Life.
  • Raggabomb is named after the Skrillex song.
  • Alexi's tank...car... thing... is named Troika Gallop.
  • Roller Mobster is named after the Carpenter Brut song.
  • An audience member in Chapter 8 has a black star on his shirt.
  • In Chapter 10, Mr. Castle gives Davis the name of Tenacious D.
  • Davis' daughter Lena is named after Lena Raine.
  • A car with the name Low Rider appears in the flashback with a young Davis.

References to other media

  • In the remastered Chapter 1, in the panel of Josiah's room, the reader can see a box with the head of a hat wearing bear poking out, and a red guitar. The various colored suits are also a reference to a certain criminal lawyer. In a different panel Breaking Bad can be seen playing on his TV.
  • Josiah miraculously regenerating from grave wounds and emerging from the dumpster references a similar scene in Chainsaw Man.
  • The panel of Josiah with completely white eyes and lightning behind him is a reference to the "YOU SHOULD KILL YOURSELF... NOW!" meme featuring LowTierGod.
  • The cover of Volume 2 is a reference to the poster for The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.
  • A strange in between of a music reference, but the character Dale Reunt's name is UnderTale rearranged, with his car being named Bergentrückung. His appearance is also modeled after Queen from Deltarune.
  • Chapter 8 features crowd signs with the writing on them being shout outs to other fanparts. Those being Iron Touch, Gotequest and Thorny Mob Rules.
  • In Chapter 10, Ignition confuses Davis' name with David.
  • Later in the chapter, Davis and Josiah perform the famous Akira slide on a motorbike.
