Shout Out / Avengers: Infinity War

Go To

  • Thanos's flagship Sanctuary II looks quite a bit like a Cylon basestar.
  • When Iron Man first goes up against Ebony Maw, he refers to him as "Squidward". In the French version, he instead calls him "Voldemort".
  • In the commentary, the writers specifically say the shot of Maw's hand being burned by the housing of the Eye of Agamotto is a Shout-Out to Raiders of the Lost Ark.
  • Peter Parker deliberately brings up Aliens to suggest blasting Ebony Maw into space, and the movie even goes as far as doing a Homage Shot with Maw's freezing corpse drifting towards and past the camera with the Q-ship behind that has the same composition of Aliens' Acheron Queen drifting away from the USS Sulaco after being ejected.
    • During the scuffle on Titan, when Spider-Man encounters Mantis, he freaks out because he thinks she's going to lay eggs in him à la facehugger.
    • When Vision is impaled from behind it's incredibly similar to the scene from Aliens where Bishop, an android, is impaled by the alien queen.
  • As Strange and Stark are arguing, Peter tries to intervene to support Stark. Strange is confused about their relationship, and asks if Peter is Stark's ward, just like another billionaire playboy who also has a young protegee.
  • At one point during the Battle on Titan, Doctor Strange briefly takes on a multi-armed appearance reminiscent of the Hindu god Vishnu's Vishvarupa form from the Bhagavad Gita to intimidate Thanos. Made all the more appropriate considering that Vishnu boasted that he was "time grown old" as he took on that form; Strange of course is the keeper of the time stone, which Thanos is after in that particular fight.
  • Thanos is referred to as "Grimace" by Peter Quill.
  • The Russos are known fans of anime, and Thanos receiving the Soul Stone is a faithful recreation of Griffith during the Eclipse. Like Griffith, he sacrifices his loved one for power before sitting up in a shallow lake of water with the stone in his palm as a reddish solar eclipse shines in the backdrop.
  • During the Battle of Wakanda, Rocket's cries of "Get some!" while fighting the Outriders back-to-back with Bucky recalls the helicopter gunner from Full Metal Jacket; Bucky even at one point grabs Rocket by the scruff and spins him around in a circle for a better shot — like a helicopter rotor.
  • Tom Holland improvised his last lines as Spider-Man; the English actor confirmed in an interview that "I don't wanna go!" is a nod to David Tennant's tenth Doctor's final words in Doctor Who.
