Go To

Given the 21st century setting of All Saints Street, it's not surprising to find a plethora of pop culture references sprinkled throughout scenes in the donghua and webcomic.

Webcomic

  • Most chapter names are a reference to a song, a show, or another piece of media:
    • Chapter 19's references the Aska Yang song "Onion" ("If you could peel my heart, layer by layer").
    • Chapter 45's is a memetic line from CJ7.
    • Chapter 61's is a parody of a quote from Kung Fu Hustle.
    • Chapter 63's is "Don't Kick the Goddamned Baby". The phrase was also referenced in the same Chapter (Strip 126).
    • Chapter 54's title references fellow Chinese webcomic Please Take My Brother Away!, but changes "Brother" to "Sister".
    • Chapter 56 has the lyrics to "Xiao Ding Dang", a theme song for the Chinese dub of Doraemon.
    • Chapter 153, being a superhero film parody, has its title and second strip reference The Avengers (2012). The parody for some reason features a Martian Manhunter Expy with it too.
  • Strip 25 features a little boy with the color scheme and gap tooth of Superjail!'s Warden.
  • Ira pulls out his genius "invention" (a quintet of pens taped together he calls the "Practice Wand") the way Doraemon would. The same gag is used when Lynn fixes his halo after Lily broke it.
  • Part of Valentine's rampage against the film industry is calling up George R. R. Martin for one of his ships not becoming canon, and going straight to the filmset of The Mystic Nine to tell the lead actors to get together already.
  • Ira's pet cat is named Burton. She even has the wide, beady eyes associated with Tim Burton's stop motion movies.
  • After a failed attempt to make Vlad and Ira a couple, the latter wearily asks if somebody gave Valentine Twilight (2005) to read.
    • Speaking of Twilight, Ira's character profile has to clarify that he indeed cannot sparkle in sunlight.
  • Momo scrunches her face up in a way resembling the "Cat Doesn't Like Banana" meme when she gets a taste of British food.
  • Some of the "American Monsters" Luis shows off are The Shield Monster, The Bat Monster (with robin sidekick), The Car Monster, Chewbaca, and a Little Green Man that says "ET".
  • La La Land's iconic couple dance pose is imitated when Da Mao dances with the grannies in the modern dance troupe.
  • Luis once has a dream where Lynn, Abi, and Ira reenact Plants vs. Zombies, with the zombies in question being recolored Bellsprouts.
  • The cats Abu mummifies in Strip 206 all have the looks and body shapes of Neko Atsume cats.
  • Ira owns a Cuphead pastiche called Mughead, who himself is just a mug with arms and legs, Cuphead's face, and Mugman's nose.
  • The source of Lynn's furious cooking in Chapter 167 seems to be a demonic Gordon Ramsay in a Hell's Kitchen parody.
  • Neil once gets a handful of Golden Hamsters, who proceed to breed. The babies' gourd-like shape and their rainbow coloring reminds Neil of the Calabash Brothers, the protagonists of the 1986 animated series of the same name.
  • Among Abi's return gifts to the 1031 boys is a deluxe edition of Birth Stranding.
  • When a showing of Frozen (2013) comes on, Nick plots to have himself and Neil shapeshift into girls and cosplay as Elsa and Anna.
  • One 2018 strip had Ira and Neil argue about a film series where the former only liked the first movie and none of the sequels or remakes, while Neil liked the giant falling bird in "last year's" remake.

Donghua

  • An assortment of pop culture items can be found in Ira's room like the Tardis and Shaun.
  • Ira has a shirt that says "I am your father".
  • Neil has some posters of Bruce Lee in his room.
  • When Neil shows he can shift forms into a cute cat-looking girl, Da Mao, Ira and Lynn are all internally reacting as this iconic meme.
  • In the pet shop, what looks like a black Slowpoke can be seen in one of the cages.
  • The group of senior citizens Da Mao attracts before Ira rescues him can be heard singing "Beijing's Fifth Ring Road Song" (五环之歌) by MC HotDog and Yue Yunpeng, which appeared in the 2015 superhero comedy parody film Jianbing Man (煎饼侠).
  • Neil's scared reaction to Momo trying to force apology booze on him references the Scared Hamster meme.
