Shout Out / Afterlife with Archie

Go To

A list of all the shout outs in Afterlife with Archie.

  • The story starts off with Sabrina and Jughead burying Hot Dog in a magical place to bring him back to life, just like in Pet Sematary, with two direct quotes from the novel- Sabrina's aunt reminds Jughead that, "Sometimes, dead is better," and Sabrina herself refuses to help Jughead dig Hot Dog's (temporary) grave, citing that, "Each buries his own."
  • Sabrina uses the Necronomicon to bring Hot Dog back to life. Later she is interned at an asylum with a bunch of H. P. Lovecraft characters and is forced to marry Cthulhu.
  • Betty considers dressing up as a "Hitchcock blonde" (either Janet Leigh or Tippi Hedren) for the school Halloween party before deciding to don a Naughty Nurse Outfit instead.
  • Veronica dresses up like Vampirella for the Halloween party.
    • Cheryl and Jason Blossom dress up like Raggedy Ann and Andy.
  • Dilton argues with Chuck that Freddy Krueger could beat Michael Myers in a fight.
  • Mr. Weatherbee liked to scare Miss Grundy with Night of the Living Dead (1968) quotes when they were younger.
  • When Ginger and Kevin use bows and arrows to defeat a zombie Coach Kleats, they affectionately refer to each other as "Ginger Spice" and "Queen Arrow".
  • The survivors hole up in a huge hotel in issue 8 that looks like the Overlook Hotel from The Shining. Archie evens converses with the ghost of Jughead at the bar.
    • Something of a subversion, in that said ghost actually seems to be trying to help Archie keep it together, instead of descending further into doubt and madness. Jughead even encourages Archie to choose Betty over Veronica; considering what we've seen of the two so far, it seems to be the healthier solution to the Love Triangle.
  • When all the girl get together for a meeting, Veronica calls them the Pretty Little Liars.
  • In issue 4, the third dog that the Andrews' consider buying for Archie is a puppy version of Cujo.
  • Some of the dialogue in issue 6, notably Sabrina's "this is no dream, this is really happening" and Hilda and Zelda's "of all the girls on this earth, he chose you!" is right out of Rosemary's Baby.
  • Doctors Howard Lovecraft and Arthur Machen.
  • Issue 10, when Josie and friends are on their way to Henry Irving's party, they pass a sign that calls to mind those of Doctor T. J. Eckleburg in The Great Gatsby.
