This is the happiest you will ever see these characters. Really.

The Village is a 2013 period drama series produced by The BBC and created by Silk writer Peter Moffat. The series is depicted through flashbacks, as Bert Middleton, the second-oldest man in Britain, reminisces about his life in early 20th Century Derbyshire.

The show is comprised of an ensemble cast headed by John Simm and Maxine Peake.

This show contains examples of:

  • Break the Cutie: Caro after her baby is taken away.
  • Heel–Faith Turn: John has a huge one, as a result of Martha's counsel.
  • Hey, You!: John rarely calls anybody in his family by their actual names. Bert is always "Boy" and Grace is usually "Mother."
  • Hollywood Atheist: Averted. Grace comes to realize that she doesn't really believe in God, starting in episode 4, but she's never portrayed as a bad person because of her Atheist beliefs.
  • Meaningful Name: Plenty. Norma's maiden name is Greaves, and Caro's doctor's name is Dr. Wiley, among others.
    • You could also argue that Grace's name is very fitting.
  • Rousing Speech: Grace gives a great one to the whole village at the end of season 2.
