I don't trust my eyes anymore...
The A List is a British supernatural teen thriller/drama streaming TV series created by Dan Berlinka and Nina Metivier.

One summer, popular queen bee Mia gets sent to Camp Peregrine on the remote Peregrine Island for a summer of camping and activities. However, she soon finds herself eclipsed by the enigmatic Amber, who draws more and more people into her circle through mysterious means. As Amber gains more and more influence on the campers, Mia and other campers Alex, Harry, Petal, Dev and others uncover secrets that lurk beneath the island and find clues that there's a horrible secret behind Amber and her strange powers.

The first season was released on The BBC iPlayer in 2018, and was released internationally on Netflix in 2019. Months afterwards, the BBC announced that they were pulling out of the project, and the series was moved to Netflix, on which the second season premiered in 2021.

Tropes

  • Abandoned Laboratory: The construction that Alex and Petal find turns out to contain an abandoned lab where experiments were done on mycelium, a chemical plants use to communicate with each other.
  • Applied Phlebotinum: Animosine, a chemical found in abundance on Peregrine Island which was used to try and treat Midge's brain injuries after her falls and which gives her and Amber their powers.
  • Arc Symbol: The three-part symbol Alex and Petal find on the building. The same symbol is also the symbol of the Lockwell Institute in Season 2.
  • Cell Phones Are Useless: Because Peregrine Island doesn't get any cell phone signal, cell phones are pretty useless to the characters. Especially after a mind-controlled Dave disposes of everyone's phones in a stream.
  • Cliffhanger: The first season ends on a massive one, with Midge somehow having returned from the dead.
  • Closed Circle: Peregrine Island is isolated from the rest of the world, with ferries no longer going there and the cell phone reception being terrible, preventing anyone from leaving the camp.
  • Déjà Vu: Throughout Season 1, Dev has memories of being on the island in the past when he is at certain locations and sees certain things.
  • Driving Question: For Season One: Who was Midge, and what is her connection to Amber?
  • Greater-Scope Villain: The unnamed organization behind the three-part symbol that is responsible for creating Amber and runs the Lockwell Institute.
  • Island of Mystery: Peregrine Island gradually turns out to be a very weird place, with strange, inexplicable occurrences and mysterious remnants of past events, including the abandoned lab in Season One, and the mysterious ruins in Season Two.
  • Mental World: In Season Two, Amber and Midge's shared consciousness is represented by a room filled with old-timey things, like dolls and a grammophone.
  • Plot-Triggering Death: The events of the first two seasons can be directly traced to the accidental death of Midge a year before.
  • The End... Or Is It?: The last shot of Season Two is of the animosine on Peregrine Island seemingly coming alive again.
  • Together in Death: In Season Two, the last we see of Midge and Sam is them walking off together as ghosts.
  • Wham Episode:
    • Episode 11 of Season One: Amber turns out to be Midge, who has somehow been reborn as her and to have gotten her powers in the process.
    • Episode Four of Season Two: Midge is revealed to have been friends with Mia when they were younger.
  • Wham Shot:
    • From Episode 2 of Season One: an old photo of Mia, Dev and the other campers, even though none of them are supposed to have been there before.
