martyisdead (full name #martyisdead) is an Emmy Award winning Czech web series thriller webseries that was released on 20 October 2019 Mall.TV. It was created in cooperation with CZ.NIC, filmed by the Czech company Bionaut. It deals with cyberbullying and was inspired by real events. It won the main prize at the Serial Killer festival, where it premiered.
Fifteen-year-old Marty had his whole life ahead of him. But now he's dead. All that remained of him was a series of chilling videos that he filmed shortly before his death. A grieving father pieces together the pieces of Marty's online life to uncover the circumstances of his tragic end.
Tropes of the #martyisdead:
- Bittersweet Ending: Marty's parents find out who blackmailed Marty but Police is unable to prosecute him hich leads Marty's parents to post a video on Marty's Facebook page that destroys perpetrator's reputation. Ending shows that perpetrator (Kryštof) himself becomes victim of cyberbullying.
- Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Kryštof was Marty's best friend and yet it was him who blackmailed him.
- Blackmail: Marty was blackmailed by mysterious "Eliška" who forced him to do various tasks such as killing his own dog or telling his father he is a prick after Marty sent "her" video of himself masturbating on her request.
- Cyberbullying: The series deals with this topic.
- Determinator: Petr is determinated to find out who blackmailed his son.
- Fate Worse than Death: Kryštof gets this. Everybody knows what he did to Marty and he receives tons of hate messages as a result and he also becomes a victim of cyberbully who blackmails him similarly he blackmailed Marty.
- Hate Sink: Kryštof by the end of the series seems to be it. It is subverted once audience sees his fate.
- Karma Houdini: Kryštof avoids any legal punishment. It is eventually subverted as Marty's parents post a video on Marty's Facebook page that reveals what Kryštof did to Marty.
- Mama Bear: Alena, Marty's mother is the one who clicks on the button that posts the video on Marty's Facebook page that reveals what Kryštof did to Marty when Police is unable to prosecute Kryštof.
- Papa Wolf: Petr shows signs of this throughout the series. He attacks Marty's teacher when he believes it was him who lackmailed Marty.
- Parental Obliviousness: Petr and Alena failed to notice that there is something going on with Marty.
- Secondary Character Title: Marty is the title character and story revolves around investigation of events that led to his demise yet its Petr, Marty's father who is the protagonist.
- Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Marty's girlfriend Týna tutored Kryštof in English language and Kryštof fell in love with her. She also helped Kryštof to set up Eliška's facebook profile and initiated first messages to Marty as she wanted to see if Marty is serious about their relationship. Kryštof then uses the profile to cyberbully Marty when Týna rejects him.
- Unwitting Pawn: Týna helps Kryštof to set up Eliška facebook page not knowing what he will use it for.
- Vigilante Execution: Non-lethal example. Marty's parents post a video on Marty's Facebook page that reveals what Kryštof did to Marty when Police is unable to prosecute Kryštof.
- Was Too Hard on Him: Petr remembers when he punished Marty for telling him he is a prick. The memory brings tear to his face as he realizes that Marty did that only because he was blackmailed by the mysterious Eliška.
