Darby Carter searches for love throughout her 20s and 30s, often in all the wrong places, while the people she meets along the way leave a lasting impression.
Season Two premiered on October 28th, 2021, focusing on new character Marcus Watkins, portrayed by William Jackson Harper.
No relation to the 2012 ITV show of the same name.
Love Life contains examples of the following tropes:
- Amicable Exes: Darby and Augie following their second break up. This time around they end it on much friendlier terms, agreeing that they’re going in different directions and that breaking up is best. By the time their son is born, they are on great terms.
- Callback: In the first episode, Darby tells Augie about being in a school production of Cats. In a flashback episode, we see her join that play.
- Generation Xerox:
- In our introduction to Darby, we learn that her parents divorced before she was old enough to remember them together. Darby tells Augie that she’s pregnant immediately after they agree to break up.
- Darby and her mother Claudia also both suffer from a sense of not feeling good enough, which ironically causes much of the communication gap between them. They begin to patch their relationship up a bit, however.
