4 Square is a children's series that aired on Treehouse TV. It ran from 2003 to 2007 and continued to air in reruns until 2015.

Each episode consists of four shorts; a song short, a movement short, a poetry short, and a rhythm short, each one taking place inside a different colored square (hence the name 4 Square).

Tropes:

  • The Bus Came Back: Melissa returned in season 3.
  • Character Catchphrase: Lots:
    • Four Tones: "Do what the Do-Wahs do!"
    • Do-Wahs: "Do what we do!"
    • Helen and Pay: "And now you know a poem."
    • Beat Team: "Hey, Beat Team, let's do our thing!" and "High-four!"
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: Captain Hup, Ludzu, Krankovitch, the original Poetry Presenters, and John did not appear after Season 1.
    • Bianca and Starr did not appear after season 2.
    • The Beat Team are the only square to avert this trope, because just like Alison, Chantelle, and the Doo-Wahs, they stuck it out for the entire series.
  • Color-Coded Characters: The teams in each square wear the colors of the opposite square.
    • The Four Tones (purple square) wear green, and Helen, Pay, and their accompanying child (green square) wear purple.
    • The 4 Square Dancers (red square) wear blue, and the Beat Team (blue square) wear red.
  • Distaff Counterpart: Captain Huppette to Captain Hup.
  • Gender-Equal Ensemble: In Season 2 and 3, the 4 Square Dancers have two male members (Metito and Rufus) and two female members (Captain Huppette and Bianca/Pippa).
  • Graceful Ladies Like Purple: Helen and Pay, who are the most relaxed and sophisticated characters, wear purple.
  • Improbably Female Cast: The Poetry Presenters were this in season 1, and the Four Tones were this in seasons 2 and 3
  • The Nameless: The Four Tones, the Do-Wahs, and the Beat Team do not have names.
  • The One Guy:
    • The Beat Team has only one male member.
    • In Season 1, the Four Tones only had one male member.
  • The Smurfette Principle: In Season 1, Bianca was the only female 4 Square Dancer.
  • Tertiary Sexual Characteristics: The female Four Tones and 4 Square Dancers wear dresses.
  • Token Non-Human: The Do-Wahs, who are puppets, are the only non-human characters.
  • Token White: Of the Beat Team, only one of them is white.
    • Similarly, Chantelle was the only white member of the Four Tones in season 2.
