Four orphans, the last elephant in existence and an a pair of extraterrestrial Endlings

Endlings is a Science-Fiction show that airs on CBC Television in Canada, Hulu in America and ABC in Australia. The series is produced by Sinking Ship Entertainment.

In the near future, when an alien arrives to abduct the last living elephant to add to a collection of Endlings, the landing pod is damaged and crashes into a barn halfway around the world. Because the pilot collector ejected the preservation pods prior to impact to safeguard them, the local kids have to recover the missing pods and return them to the alien for safekeeping. This is often complicated by the fact that many of the pods have been opened and need to be reactivated, usually unleashing some alien creature into the local area.

Series 2 was released on ABC's iview service on 16 September 2021.

Endlings exhibits these tropes:

  • Aliens Speaking English: Notably averted, so far. No Translator Microbes either, although Sparky can learn and translate any spoken language into another one.
  • Bad Future: Ling shows Johhny, Julia and Aboina a potential bad future, but knowing what events cause this, they can take action to avert it and do so.
  • Big Damn Hero: What Ling does to the drone army with nothing more then a set of power gauntlets and natural agility definitely qualifies.
  • Combining Mecha: Hewes unleashes a new kind of Capture Drone, with the ability to link together to form a singular combat unit.
  • Energy Being: Sparky.
  • Extinct in the Future: The lion and the rhinoceros, before the show starts. Elephants are nearly this, with only one left alive.
  • Last of Their Kind: Every specimen in the collection is this, so if one of them dies, the species is lost forever. This is the fate of the Unicorn Endling and Sparky.
  • Carnivorous Plant: Hewes is studying a plant Endling she found. The plant turns out to be carnivorous, capable of subduing potential victims by inducing a somnambulant state, so prey is easier to capture and digest. This plant finds humans easiest to entrance, due to their memories being easier to source as illusions for the pacification process.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: Ling has four arms and two legs.
  • Starfish Aliens
  • Twenty Years into the Future: The show is set in 2040.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifter: One of the Endlings is a shapeshifter, able to take on the physical appearance and memories of those imitated. But because this Endling feeds on energy generated by negative emotion, uses the technological knowledge from Ling to build a mental torture machine in order to have a ready supply of anguish to feed upon. This is the only Endling Ling physically attacks, which shows how dangerous this one is.
