Fillim

A decently older than he looks Wood Elf retainer who has served his lord dutifully for years in the shadow of a more talented sibling.

  • Combat Medic: As adept with a bow as he is with healing his comrades in battle.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Tends to downplay his abilities when others praise them and frequently alludes to various mistakes he has made in his duties not the least of which is allowing the child of his lord to have once been kidnapped - though this was not exactly his fault.
  • I Am Not Pretty: At home, the women tend to hold Fillim in high regard, a fact he was oblivious to until others pointed this out to him. He has no idea why given he believes that he's not particularly impressive in the looks department.
  • Happily Married: To Wisp, in a quiet marriage between retainers. They spent all their time together when not actively on duty or tasked with something outside of the city and were thrilled to do so.
  • In Harmony with Nature: One of the things that makes him so good at stealth is that his affinity with the natural world through his Wood Elf nature allows him to easily locate and slip into places where he can conceal himself, even on mostly open land.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: Fillim can turn laundry into an artistic display of dexterity, the dishes into a masterclass of efficiency - watching his mastery of daily chores is a treat.
  • Nice Guy: While he may lack the ruthless efficiency and incredible talents of his brother, Fillim has always been favored by those he serves and his fellow retainers for simply being so damned attentive and considerate. He always has time for those around him even if it inconveniences him and always shows respect and courtesy.
  • Not So Above It All: Fillim is clearly a dutiful, stoic, strictly professional retainer at all times who would never tease anyone nor enjoy their antics - least of all his wife. Except he is always becoming embroiled in her antics and those of everyone else, while taking some pleasure in his ability to shock others with his Stealth Hi/Bye abilities.
  • Opposites Attract: The watchful, steady-handed, nimble Fillim decided that he could not deny his affections for the endearingly clumsy, flitty Air Genasi whom he decided he would help with domestic tasks and asked her to marry him, despite their coming from two completely different races and, due to his long-lived nature, eras.
  • Polar Opposite Twins: Fillim is calm, typically warm, and lacks ambition. His twin Cadmayr is dark, intense, and driven to constantly be at the cutting edge of his art in order to further his lord's goals. There is a tension between them, given Fillim disapproves of Cadmayr's violent nature and senses that his brother is disappointed in him. However, they typically manage to get along.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Fillim is the Blue Oni to his brother's Red, and to a lesser extent, the Blue to Wisp's Red.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: See Polar Opposite Twins. Cadmayr is Yin, or the shady side, and Fillim is very much the Yang, the bright side.
  • The Spymaster: His primary job as a retainer to his lord.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: Frequently, leading to constant jump-scares when he suddenly appears. People have reported his being in three different places at the same time.
  • Undying Loyalty: To his lord, and to his wife. Fillim has no ambitions to do anything but serve to the best of his abilities for the rest of his days, to the point of making the ultimate sacrifice.

Wisp

An Air Genasi retainer whose clumsy nature in domestic aspects pales in comparison to the fact that she figured out how to use air currents to become the world's smallest beefcastleTM in battle.

  • Armor Is Useless: Goes into battle wearing a merely attractive, short dress that leaves most of her legs and arms exposed, because who needs armor when you have air currents that whip around to protect you.
  • Badass Adorable: An Air Genasi who inherited every ounce of cute from her graceful and turbulent Primordial ancestors who nonetheless is the first into the battle lines.
  • Battle Butler: Heavy on the battle, light on the butler, but only because she was raised to be a royal family maid and has proceeded to be an utter disaster in that role - for the most part. Fillim has helped her somewhat right the ship, but it's obvious to anyone in the lord's palace that she should be a warrior strictly, not a maid, except the people who assign the retainers to their duties.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: The bunny ears come in with her chipper personality - not exactly conducive to a fearsome, ax-wielding warrioress - and with her inability to perform domestic tasks that require balance and coordination. Despite these quirks that make it harder for people to take her seriously, Wisp is an absurdly effective warrior.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Not a moron - she just seems physically incapable of not dropping, spilling, or losing something when it comes to domestic tasks in stark contrast to her rearing and training. She is a different creature entirely in battle, a fearsome mixture of violent aggression and breezy grace. One would never comprehend the other while only seeing her in one of these situations.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: Cuter than a button and cannot keep from tripping over herself when she's trying to walk around a domestic setting - but seemingly only in these situations.
  • The Cutie: Sweet, lovable, and a constant source of endearment for most of the people around her - at least the ones who aren't actively trying to get the lord's palace in order on a day to day basis.
  • Elemental Embodiment: Of the wind, of lightning, which shows through in her hair, her eyes, and the air current manipulation that is visible on her hands (which seem to be whipping with blue energy) and not so visible around the rest of her, save for her constantly-blowing hair.
  • Elemental Hair Colors: Blue and constantly blowing like a model standing in front of a fan.
  • Happily Married: To Fillim. Though not able to see him constantly due especially due to his frequently interfering duties, their time together was filled with happiness.
  • Innocent Blue Eyes: Hers are large, clear, and blue, a testament to her Air Genasi heritage. She is also an eager Cute Clumsy Girl who wants to do her best for everyone. Averted Trope in battle, when she doesn't seem so innocent to those who witness her...
  • Insecure Love Interest: Has been this at times for Fillim, until they got married. After all, how could the capable, smooth, respected Wood Elf possibly be interested in the clumsy, unimportant elemental-bastard maid in the lord's household?
  • The Klutz: Only - only - when she's in a well-kempt household, to the point that Fillim has lampshaded the number of times per week he sees her butt just in the time he grabs her skirt to keep her from falling over. At all other times, she is typically capable, with the occasional slip or trip. In combat, she is the picture of stability and grace.
  • Lightning Bruiser: When in combat - and therefore not around something she must avoid breaking and not tripping - she is fleet of foot, smashes people with a greataxe, and can even manipulate air currents so that she can levitate herself around the battlefield.
  • Made of Iron: It certainly seems that way to people who try to harm her, despite the fact that her muscles are merely those of a fairly sculpted, fit woman - but it's not skin made of iron protecting her, but instead subtle air currents that are deflecting blows for her.
  • Polar Opposite Twins: Zephyr is Wisp's antithesis in every way - a highly focused, typically quiet (perhaps even cold), and domestically skilled introvert who is more of a focused, calculating caster. They do get along smashingly well, though, and look out for each other.
  • Super-Strength: Certainly seems that way... but in reality, she is manipulating the air to make everything lighter for her to carry, push, pull, and the like.
  • Stronger Sibling: Wisp is the strong battleaxe user compared to Zephyr, who only uses magic.
