Lands of Exile is a boffer-based Live-Action Role-Play operating out of North Carolina and founded by Claire Wilshire and Thomas Betts. They began playtesting in early 2014 before beginning their first official season in February of 2015.

100 years ago, a war between the good and evil races of the world ended with the triumph of the Allied races against the Drow and their allies. In their defeat, they were banished to the Exiled Lands, a far-off, unexplored continent across the ocean. All was right with the world.

That all changed recently, as the continent was invaded by dragons. The beasts were unkillable and unstoppable, and the Allied Races had no choice but to flee on rumors that dragons could not fly across the vast ocean. With no where else to go, the refugees of the Allied Races try to make a new home in the Lands of Exile, where their enemies have made their homes for the last century.

Lands of Exile is a persistent world LARP, where the player's choices and actions have great effects on the overarching storyline and the events of each monthly LARP. Players take the role of any of the Allied Races and make a character through a points based system, rather than standard class-based creation.

The game is currently in its fourth active Season.

The game contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Armor and Magic Don't Mix: Played with. Any character can wear actual armor and gain Armor Points, but protection gained through the Mage Armor spell does not stack with these.
  • Back Stab: The Assassinate ability, which must be performed from behind the target, drops the victim in one stroke.
  • Black Magic: The Animate Dead spell, considered the stuff of pure evil by the Allied races.
  • Calling Your Attacks: Every weapon, ability, or spell has a damage value and/or tagline that has to be called out when striking/throwing/shooting so that the target is aware of what is coming at them.
  • Charm Person: Bard magic specializes in various forms of this.
  • Combat Medic / Magic Knight: Given the nature of the points based, classless system, most characters in the game can be this, freely mixing magic and swordplay.
  • Elemental Powers: Spellcasters can use Air, Earth, Water, or Fire magic to deal damage to enemies or control the battlefield in various ways.
  • Fantastic Racism: Grehloks, a race of formerly human mutants that were once enslaved by the Drow, are often treated as second-class citizens due to their history with the Dark Elves.
  • Hit Points: All players begin with a base of 2, and can increase this number with Character Points, either at creation or as they gain experience.
  • Item Crafting: Characters can choose Professions which allow them to repair or craft items such as weapons, armor, magic wands, etc.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Shields are immune to all damage, unless the opponent uses the Sunder ability, which is expressly meant to break shields.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: In Land of Exiles, dragons are massive, unstoppable, unkillable monsters. No one knows if they can even be harmed, let alone killed. The only weakness they have is that they are seemingly afraid to fly across large bodies of water, though it isn't really known why.
  • Our Elves Are Different: Elves come in three subraces; High Elves (standard Tolkienesque), Wylde Elves (More in tune with nature, live in tribes), and White Elves (Higher class, ablino elves that make up the upper crust of Elven society)
  • Point Build System: Character creation works this way. Each character starts with a minimum of 15 Character Points to distribute among various skills and abilities.
  • Vancian Magic: Spells and abilities work like this, with each power being having a number of uses per rest period. To gain back abilities or spells, a character has to either go a full hour without engaging in combat, or ingest a Mana Potion.
