Roleplay / Danganronpa An Adventure Of Mutual Killing

Go To

Danganronpa: An Adventure in Mutual Killing is an original character RP hosted on Fanfiction.net, and based (obviously) on the Danganronpa series. As per usual, sixteen students are trapped in a school by Monokuma, and forced to kill each other to have a chance at escape. The RP is still ongoing for the moment.

Characters, as well as their authors, can be found here.

This page is primarily made for the players themselves. If you get lost, don't worry. The players don't know what's going on either.

Tropes:

  • Chekhov's Gun: The firework Tamaya gave Chiharu to comfort her was used to destroy vital evidence in the first trial.
    • Hanavi, the AI the students create in Chapter 1, first becomes Chiharu's way of returning to the real world, and then becomes independent, and forces the construction of a robotic body for itself (which eventually is used by Chiharu).
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: As per the original series, the executions which finish each trial.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Pretty much everyone, with only a few exceptions.
  • Deal with the Devil: How Tamaya describes her deal with Monokuma following Chapter 3.
  • Driven to Suicide: Nicolas Aikawa twice. The first time, he narrowly avoided death when he stabbed himself in the gut after regretting making a self-aware AI. The second time, he succeeded in hanging himself, causing the fourth chapter's trial.
  • Easily Forgiven: Despite the AI Hanavi bringing up and using Nao’s old therapist as a means of forcing Shinobu to create a real body for her, after explaining her motive she is forgiven by all except Nao.
    • Nao is even later yelled at by Nicolas for referring to Hanavi as an ‘it’ rather than a ‘she’.
  • Exact Words: Monokuma doesn't execute Tamaya at the end of Chapter 4 because Nicolas committed suicide. Since the murderer was already dead, Tamaya couldn't take their place, voiding the deal.
"Even if I wanted to hold up my end - which I don't - Aikawa killed himself," Monokuma grinned in response. "You're not dying to save anyone, so the deal is null and void!"
  • Heel–Face Turn: Katsuo Honda during the Chapter 4 motive, using his talent to help ease Sentoki's pain when she was affected by 'Mono Ebola'.
  • Help, I'm Stuck!: Early on in Chapter 2, Nicolas traps Toyozo and Nao together inside a 'Get Along Shirt' that they cannot get out of without help from the other students.
  • Implied Death Threat: Hanavi's threat to Chiharu in Chapter 3.
"You have failed to realise that I am in control now. If you wish to feel the saw cut into your beautiful brown eyes again, by all means, stay."
  • Incredibly Lame Pun: Nao calls Toyozo 'Toy Story' just to piss him off.
Toyozo: I was expecting something more along the lines of "Oh, what a feeling!"
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Sachi and Nicolas have a case of this, as they end up playing the original game together.
  • Manipulative Bastard: In the fourth trial, Kyo is afraid of execution and uses his strategy skills in order to lie about the events and create an entirely false murder that everyone believed to be true.
  • Mood Whiplash: In chapter 4, the students hold a talent show, where they show off their special skills to the rest of the class. Things immediately take a turn for the worst when the snacks Tamaya had been handing out during the show were revealed to be laced with a deadly poison.
  • Oh, Crap!: Sentoki when she starts throwing up blood.
  • Only Friend: Shinobu considers Tamaya to be her only friend and gives Tamaya her entire fortune, but does give gifts to the other girls as an apology.
    • Sachi will not socialize with anyone except for Tamaya most of the time. She considers Tamaya to be her only friend, and tries to comfort her and make sure she's okay as much as possible.
  • Ouija Board: Used by Sentoki to contact Rei Ueda following the second trial.
  • Please, Don't Leave Me: This is used in a lot of the trials for many different people.
    • Nao begs Chiharu not to go to her death in the first trial, as it wasn’t Chiharu’s fault. However, Chiharu accepts her fate and is killed brutally. It happens again at the fourth trial. Somehow.
    • Sentoki screams at Rei as he is dragged off for execution, “Who is going to protect me now?!” She can not save him and is horrified at his death.
    • Tamaya and Shinobu’s tearful ending as Shinobu leaves her only friend for death.
    • Sachi, Nao, and Sentoki’s reaction to Tamaya’s deal as they all believe that Tamaya’s life is worth more than any killer’s.
  • Running Gag: Animal Circus ice cream became this over the course of the first few chapters. It was initially a bizarre flavor found in the ice cream bar of the cafeteria, but as time went on, 'Animal Circus' was used to label everything wrong about the school.
  • Shout-Out: Several.
    • Nicolas receives a Plague Knight outfit from the Mono Mono machine, complete with viruses.
    • Sentoki makes herself a Trucy Wright cosplay from materials found in the storage room.
  • Stalker Shrine: After Chiharu's death, Nao, and Nicolas visit her room, where they find a shrine dedicated to Nao.
  • Talent Contest: One is held near the end of Chapter 4 for fun.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Before the events of Chapter 4, where Katsuo helped Sentoki, Katsuo and Nao’s manipulation-based friendship was a bit of an oddity to the others since Katsuo is a “villain” in the story.
  • The Only One I Trust: After the first murder, Toyozo is afraid of nearly everyone and everything. When asked by Tamaya if he would like some food, he says only if she cooks it because there’s no one else he can trust.
  • What You Are in the Dark: Toyozo tries to put Nicolas in this situation when he suspects him to be the mastermind controlling Monokuma. Using a tube of superglue he received from the Mono-Mono Machine, he glued a knife to Nicolas' hands in his room and explained that he could do anything he wanted without anyone else ever finding out it was Nicolas who did it. Nicolas does fall for it, but he stabs Toyozo in a non-vital location, allowing him to live. It should be noted that during this test, Nicolas was in one of his depressive episodes.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Just as it looks like nobody is going to be executed at the end of Chapter 4's trial, Monokuma delivers a Player Punch and executes Chiharu again to crush everyone's hope.
