Refitted For Sequel / Prehistoric Park Reimagined

Go To

  • A basic idea behind how Drew, Leon, and Adrian first met and became friends, plus what sort of work they were up to prior to getting hired for the park was initially planned by Nathanoraptor for inclusion in Prehistoric Earth, but he was never able to find an appropriate point in which to bring it into play. This idea has since been put into play in Prehistoric Park Reimagined's very first mission, Novum Initium.
  • In Prehistoric Earth, seeds seemed to be planted for a rivalry and conflict between Kyle and Nikolai during some of the earlier missions, only for this apparent setup to end up amounting to nothing due to the planned rivalry ultimately leaving the story too overstuffed with plot points and story arcs for the two writers to handle. Similar seeds were planted again in the earliest missions of Phase 1 for this story, with said seeds ultimately successfully sprouting into a full fledged Teeth-Clenched Teamwork arc as had initially been planned for Prehistoric Earth.
  • There were initially plans in Prehistoric Earth for the coelophysis to have escaped from their exhibit multiple times after their rescue as a sign of the sabotage that Duncan Kent was causing in the park for Von Grimm and the smuggling operation. The implication of the escapes happening multiple times ended up removed due to Luczynski and Nathanoraptor both agreeing that it was too unsubtle of a hint at the sabotage. In this story, the idea of a large group of a small dinosaur species escaping multiple times successfully sees the light of day in this story by virtue of the dinosaur species in question being compsognathus instead, and the escapes being a result of an accidental oversight on the compies' exhibit design instead of a case of sabotage.
  • Drew himself functions as this by means of being given the entirety of the kind of personality that Nathanoraptor had initially intended for him to have in Prehistoric Earth before behind the scenes disagreements between him and Luczynski resulted in the character becoming a weird mishmash of Nathanoraptor and Luczynski's conflicting plans for him.
  • In a case of 'refitted for the next chapter', the prominent characters amongst the veterinary division were originally intended to get their proper introductions to the readers in All Creatures Great and Small. Due to pacing issues, this planned introduction got moved to the very next chapter, New Blood. For similar pacing reasons, the planned introduction for the Ancient Mariner crew for New Blood (with the exception of the successfully introduced Captain Stavros and first mate Kira) has since been set aside for a future chapter.
  • And on the subject of the veterinary team, Bethany and Harry were initially planned for inclusion in Prehistoric Earth, but were cut for pacing. They have now since received their debut in Prehistoric Park Reimagined instead.
  • Nathanoraptor initially planned for Adrian to have a small crush on Alice in Prehistoric Earth, only to scrap this idea as time went by due to both the original plans not working very well and for the sake of his later chosen plans for Alice's Will They or Won't They? arc with Will. Judging by a comment Adrian made in Novum Initium and the way he behaved over the course of a conversation between him and Alice in Red in Tooth and Claw, plus similar scenes in later chapters, this idea has finally properly seen the light of day in Prehistoric Park Reimagined.
  • Much like Bethany and Harry, Hugo Adams, an amphibian keeper newly introduced in Return of the King, was originally planned for inclusion in Prehistoric Earth before ending up cut for pacing.
  • Drew was initially considered by Luczynski to have a small collection of modern day animals living in his office like Nigel did in the original Prehistoric Park series before the idea was eventually cut for undisclosed reasons. A variation of this idea has since been incorporated in this story by virtue of Alice, Jack, and Adrian each having a small collection of appropriate animals living alongside them in their respective living quarters. Aaron, Hugo, and Carmen are likewise confirmed to have their own collections of appropriate modern day animals living alongside them in their respective living quarters.
  • As revealed in the Grand Finale chapter of Prehistoric Park: Extinction World that MortalKombat247 posted for the sake of allowing his readers to know what was planned to happen in the originally planned chapters of that story and A Keeper's Story to come when he decided to stop after undergoing a temporary Despair Event Horizon from trolling against him that got out of hand, Nigel and Chiyo were originally planned to end up on a mission to the area where the La Brea Tar Pits were located. And during this mission, they were planned to end up at the tar pits in time to witness the funeral of the La Brea Tar Pit woman as well as briefly consider allowing the woman's daughter to come to the future with them before noticing the girl's father still being around to care for her. Furthermore, when DaDog took a stab at putting the Word of God in this chapter properly in writing, he naturally intended to make it up to this point in the story Dawn of the Indominus (which would have been the story properly putting in writing all that Word of God information for Extinction World that didn't subsequently make it into A Keeper's Story after Mortal managed to come out of his temporary retirement in time to give that particular story a proper finishing with everything he'd planned for it) before eventually stopping work on the story himself before he could reach the events of that particular mission. As of Oozing From the Pit, elements of these plans have finally seen the light of day in this story.
  • Carina the edmontosaurus was initially suggested for Prehistoric Earth by Flameal15K to serve as an animal partner for Harry before Harry's getting scrapped from the story. She finally sees the light of day in this story, but as Linda's animal companion instead of Harry's.
  • The mesothelus Pumpkin in Prehistoric Earth was originally planned to be named Neith (and serve as an animal partner for Bethany before she got scrapped). Her megolarachne counterpart in Prehistoric Park Reimagined has been named Neith, and has the option of forming a 'bond' with Bethany on the table. Matt Thompson was originally planned to have a considerably more prominent role in Prehistoric Earth before behind the scenes upheaval caused him to be Demoted to Extra (with Will Darrow only just barely avoiding the same fate). He is now currently intended to receive the proper prominence he deserves in this story. Finally, Kaisumi Ishiara was originally intended for a much larger role in Prehistoric Earth before ending up reduced to a single silent appearance in one episode for the sake of pacing. She is now serving a much larger role in this story as early as her introductory chapter.
  • The scene between Nikolai and Jack at the end of the Prehistoric Earth version of Alien Empire was originally intended to serve as a launchpad for an important arc involving them and Colette that ended up cut for pacing (although the behind the scenes upheaval that unfolded couldn't have helped either). Here, a version of this same scene is included at the end of this story's version of the episode with the explicit intent of properly following through on the previously scrapped arc this time around.
  • Over the course of writing Prehistoric Earth, Nathanoraptor initially considered the idea of Cynthia having been in a previous relationship with Drew before her introduction in the story itself that had ended on bad terms due to one of the two breaking the heart of the other. He ultimately chose to scrap it without even telling Luczynski about the idea due to him thinking at the time that such a backstory would have been too convenient (a decision he's since come to thoroughly regret). Elements of this previously scrapped idea have since appeared in the spin-off Prehistoric Park: Extras, in which it is explicitly confirmed that Drew had a girlfriend in high school and college that he broke up with on horrible terms after graduation from college. And while it was initially very deliberately kept vague as to whether or not the girlfriend in question was in fact Cynthia, Cynthia herself was eventually indeed confirmed to be said ex girlfriend upon her introduction into the Prehistoric Park Reimagined continuity in Spirits of the Ice Forest.
  • Rommel the dimetrodon is himself a roundabout case of this. When Prehistoric Earth was first in its planning stages, A-LionGleek ended up, after having his interest in such an idea piqued by a suggestion by then avid Prehistoric Park fanfic reader Avian (who'd also helped create Adrian) for his suggested character to have one or two small pterosaurs as animal partners, deciding to include possible animal partners amongst the information he included in his own subsequent character suggestions for Prehistoric Earth. One suggestion in particular that failed to make the cut (for reasons that A-LionGleek has since forgotten) was an andrewsarchus named Rommel to serve as an animal partner for Kyle. But now, in Prehistoric Park Reimagined, the name 'Rommel' and the status of forming a bond with Kyle have now successfully been given to a rescued dimetrodon.
  • In Prehistoric Earth, Nathanoraptor initially wished for Lubbock and Spiny to engage in a dynamic similar to Sylvester the Cat and Tweety Bird or Wile E Coyote And The Roadrunner over the course of the 'hijinks' they got involved in alongside Howler the hynerpeton in that story's episode The New Rulers (with Howler serving a role similar to that of the bulldog in the Sylvester and Tweety shorts), and even had multiple other similar 'shorts' planned involving Spiny and Lubbock before Luczynski put a hard veto on the idea for at the time undisclosed reasons (which he has since reportedly revealed to be a case of him wanting Spiny to engage in a scenario that he felt would be more conducive to the plans he had for using Spiny as a means of promoting his then upcoming separate passion project fanfic Dinosaur King Retold). In Prehistoric Park Reimagined, Spiny is finally granted the ability to engage in a Sylvester and Tweety style dynamic with Lubbock's PPR counterpart Larry in Extras chapter I Tawt I Taw A Dimetwodon (with Nathanoraptor explicitly making it clear that this will not be the last time the duo engage in such hijinks).
  • In Prehistoric Earth, Luczynski wanted the rescued male postosuchus to be named Kenge, only for Nathanoraptor to overrule this suggestion on account of how the name in question left no immediately available appropriate name for the rescued female. In this story, the name is given to the rescued 'alpha male' of the secodontosaurus aggregations, with the issue that had prevented the name's use in the former fanfic being resolved via the 'alpha female' secodontosaurus being named Komodo.
  • A version of the Ape Men (aka. Kzamm) were initially considered for inclusion in Prehistoric Earth episode Full Fathom Five. But after a decent amount of time considering whether or not to include them, Nathanoraptor ultimately decided against including them in that fanfic due to just how close to the story's finale Full Fathom Five was located, which would have meant that including them would have only resulted in the ape men's inclusion being unable to get utilized to their full potential. In this story, they get subtly teased in several early Phase 1 episodes before debuting in Ice Time.
  • Luczynski (the writer) initially had an idea to include a smilodon character named Simba in Prehistoric Earth that would have brutally killed one of the other rescued smilodon under unrevealed circumstances. For unclear reasons, this idea was cut - however, whilst this scene is not planned to appear in PPR, the male cave lion has been named Simba.
  • Luczynski initially wanted for Martha to undergo PTSD at the park after her rescue in Prehistoric Earth; and while Nathanoraptor initially very strongly considered allowing this idea to be greenlit, he ultimately decided against it due to Martha's rescue ending up occurring far too close to the end of the story for such an arc to be utilized to its full potential. This story ends up having both Martha and her Spared by the Adaptation sister indeed suffer from PTSD, complete with Nikolai himself working to comfort them during their 'episodes'.
