    Films — Live-Action

  • Kevin Smith, being a huge fan of the show, referenced Degrassi Junior High several times in his movies.
    • Clerks: Caitlin Bree was named after Caitlin Ryan.
    • Mallrats: Rene is seen wearing a Degrassi Junior High jacket. Becomes funnier when you learn that Smith originally wanted Stacie Mistysyn for the role before Universal turned her down for a more famous actress. According to Smith, Shannen Doherty (Rene) had no idea what Degrassi even was.
    • Chasing Amy: This exchange:
Holden: So, uh, what do you wanna do tonight?
Banky: I dunno. Get a pizza, watch Degrassi Junior High.
Holden: You got a weird thing for Canadian melodrama.
Banky: I got a weird thing for girls who say "aboot".

    Live-Action TV
  • Degrassi: The Next Generation, being a reboot, naturally does this by bringing back characters, referencing things from the show and even revisiting a plotline. But it doesn't do just that, it goes a step further and has a character watch an episode of it on TV as an easter egg.
  • Tosh.0 had a segment around a creepy math teacher who was a tad too obsessed with Amanda Stepto. His YouTube song tribute videos have him chroma-keyed against pictures of Spike.

    Music
  • Canadian punk band Propaghandi covered the theme song under the name "Degrassi Junior High Dropout" with changed lyrics.
  • Skankin' Pickle released a song called "I'm In Love With A Girl Named Spike". Frontman Mike Park had a massive crush on Amanda Stepto and currently hosts a Degrassi podcast with the same name as the song.
