Go To

The big SPRQ Point watch launch is coming up, and Joan is being hard on everyone. After hearing a "heart-song" from her, Zoey realizes Joan is dissatisfied with something. It eventually comes to light that Joan's relationship with her narcissistic husband Charlie — a legendary game developer who is supposed to present the watch — is on the rocks. At the launch party, Joan works up the courage to leave him.

Meanwhile, Zoey and David realize that Maggie is having difficulty caring for Mitch by herself, and convince her to take some time off.

Songs covered in this episode:

Tropes:

  • Betty and Veronica: Lampshaded by Mo when deciding whether or not they're "Team Max" or "Team Simon": the former is a nice guy-next-door type, the latter is broody.
  • The Call Knows Where You Live: Zoey tries to ignore Joan's heart song, which just causes her to hear the tune of "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" everywhere she goes until she decides to help.
  • Domestic Abuse: Charlie is emotionally abusive to Joan. He's dismissive of her and never gives her the time of day. With Zoey's help Joan gets the courage to leave him.
  • High-Heel Power: As a token of appreciation and a gesture that Zoey is coming into her own, Joan gifts Zoey (who usually wears flats or sneakers) a pair of Louboutin heels.
  • History with Celebrity: For some reason, Max has a direct line to Shigeru Miyamoto, and asks him to fly in for the event.
