Misaki: I have always loved Senpai. From the first time I laid eyes on you...Since then, and forevermore.

Summary

Naoyuki is Misaki's senpai and first, real love. She met one day while browsing a Valentine's Day chocolate book when he spoke to her. He puts effort into everything he does and he is very kind...

A month passes and one day her friend, Aki, asks if she will be spending Valentines Day with him. She honestly admits how surprised she is that they hooked up considering he's the school idol and extremely popular. She wasn't sure Misaki's confession would go over very well, but somehow it did. Misaki responds to her question before they catch him passing outside, chatting with a few girls. Misaki points out that she took the initiative to confess- something unsurprising to Aki considering she's always been the type to rush at things full-force.

When the girls ask Naoyuki if he has a girlfriend, he happens to see Misaki observing him from the window. He hurriedly claims that yes, he does; a cute one in fact. However he won't tell them who it is because it's a secret. The girls are disappointed, as is Misaki, who would have liked to get some recognition by now. For some reason he won't tell anybody, and they haven't even gone on a date yet. He doesn't even reply to her texts due to being so busy with cram school.

She can't but wonder if they actually are a couple sometimes.

Suddenly, Misaki sees a girl with a bandaged eye closely standing near Naoyuki. The girl exchanges a glance with Misaki as she wonders why she's so close to him. Aki witnesses this and warns Misaki to be careful of scary fangirls.

Arriving home, Misaki gets to work making the perfect chocolate for tomorrow. She spends several hours on it while thinking that while she complains a lot, she's happy to have been chosen by Naoyuki. By the time she finishes she decides to send him a text about where they should meet up, but noticing it's 2:00 am she changes her mind to avoid rudely awakening him. She takes her prepared chocolate to put it away, but when she gets distracted she accidentally knocks her school bag over to find several threatening letters spilling out. Startled, Misaki picks them up and recalls Aki's earlier statement.

The following day, Misaki remains sullen until Aki joins her to ask if she'll be meeting up with Naoyuki. She confirms that she will be, but still feeling uneasy she hesitates before heading to the shoe lockers. Seeing Naoyuki and his friend chatting, she hides to listen as his friend asks if he will be spending time with his girlfriend today. Naoyuki confirms this before revealing that he's been avoiding her as of late due to some heavy bullying and wanting to protect her. He wants to make today special for her to make up for this. Misaki is surprised, but relieved as she realizes that this must be the reason he's secretive about their relationship. He wants to protect her.

Just as she prepares to call out to him, she is suddenly yanked outside. To her alarm, Misaki finds the angry girl from the prior day, holding one of the threatening letters she found. The girl demands that Misaki stay away from Naoyuki, angrily chewing her out for all of the crap she's put them through and accusing her of being in their way. No matter what she does, Naoyuki would never like someone like her.

It's then Naoyuki joins the girls as Misaki remains in stunned silence. He pulls the girl -Sasaoka- away and yells at her for wasting time on Misaki. He coldly tells Misaki off and asks her how much longer she plans to continue causing them problems with her frequently weird messages and hostile attitude towards Sasaoka.

Misaki is genuinely confused by his cruelty; isn't she his girlfriend?

Sasaoka bluntly tells Misaki that she was rejected, and it dons on her that something isn't right. As Misaki thinks back to that day, she remembers how her confession actually went...

After speaking to him that special day, she decided to approach him and confess -just as she said she did- but he hardly acknowledged her since he didn't know her that well. His friends and Sasaoka arrive in time to witness this and his friends begin to make fun of her by bringing up that he already has a girlfriend. They tease him about how frequently this happens, but Naoyuki claimed it wasn't his fault if girls act like this. The group take off afterwards, leaving the heartbroken and humiliated girl behind. But as she recalled his earlier kindness, she refused to accept this. She went home and spent several hours following that event pasting together the several threatening notes, keeping so many of them for herself and giving Sasaoka a few. She even threw a ball or rock through the window one day in an attempt to injure her; explaining her bandaged eye.

Naoyuki then goes on to say that in order to keep her away from Sasaoka, he pretended to break up with her. But they could only do this for so long, it's time she understands that he doesn't like her. Misaki, in one last desperate attempt to get him to understand her feelings shows him the chocolate she spent several hours working on, but he harshly shoves it aside as Sasaoki questions Misaki's mental state. As they briskly prepare to leave, she stares at the remains of the broken chocolate on the ground.

What happened to that kind smile? The one only reserved for her...

In tears, Misaki picks up a large rock and approaches them from behind.

Suddenly, Misaki snaps out of her daze to see that she's on the bench with Naoyuki. He kindly asks her if she is alright and asks if she was listening to him. Seeing her confusion he reminds her of how much he enjoyed the chocolate she made. Misaki remains confused until noticing Sasaoka isn't there, and she slowly calms down, laying against him.

It was only a nightmare...

Unfortunately, reality sets in when a couple walk by the bench and notice Misaki talking to herself. In their hurry to get away, they fail to notice the bloodied, unconscious couple laying on the ground with the large rock and broken chocolate near them. An ambulance sounds in the distance.
