A young boy named Zatch Bell suddenly appears at the house of genius high schooler Kiyo Takamine on his 14 birthday and reveals that he was sent by Kiyo's father as a birthday present in the hopes that he could help Kiyo to become a better person. Annoyed by this Kiyo initially dismisses Zatch only to quickly find out that he isn't just an ordinary kid... he can shoot lightning from his mouth whenever Kiyo says a magic word written in a mysterious red book Zatch had with him! Just what in the world is he?
Later on while accompanying Kiyo to school Zatch soon finds himself in trouble when a cruel bully appears and threatens him and another student named Suzy who has a crush on Kiyo. Will the brilliant young man show up to help his new companion or will Zatch and Suzy have to face the bully all by themselves? Furthermore, there seem to be other children with special powers like Zatch and other humans with spell books too. Even if they manage get out of this mess in one piece what will Zatch and Kiyo have to face in the very near future... and more importantly, will they be able to work together to overcome the many challenges that lie ahead of them?
- Bowdlerize: In the English version of the episode Zatch is given a pair of underwear when he breaks into Kiyo's room at the beginning so that he isn't completely naked like in the Japanese version. (See Below.)
- Distracted by the Sexy: Eido gets distracted by an attractive girl on a billboard while skating through the air and ends up crashing, much to Hyde's frustration.
- Naked First Impression: In the Japanese version of the episode Zatch is completely naked when he breaks into Kiyo's room at the very beginning. Kiyo is horrified.
- Toilet Humour: The excuse that Zatch and Suzy give as to why Kiyo hasn't shown up to save them yet? He ate some bad food and has been stuck on the can for the past several minutes. Made especially hilarious in the English dub when Kiyo plays along during his big Dynamic Entry.Kiyo: Ahhhh, that felt goooood!
- Villainous Rescue: Eido and Hyde actually rescue Kiyo, Zatch and Suzy from Kane the bully before attacking them all themselves and trying to kidnap Suzy.
