Rafael: Hey, wanna see my Gandalf impression?
Yami: Okay.
(The ledge collapses and Rafael falls to the ground screaming)
Yami: I've seen better.

Yami and Kaiba finally settle the score with Dartz.

Tropes

  • Aesop Amnesia: Rafael declares that he has finally figured out Dartz is evil and won’t let him influence him anymore. Dartz only needs to tell him one line before he starts listening to his bullcrap again.
  • America Saves the Day: Hilariously subverted; the US Armies prove completely useless to the entire episode, something Kaiba gleefully mocks. Their only contribution is to bring the protagonists to Dartz's hideout, which they already knew where to find anyway. Worse, they are unable to go through a storm that even Rafael was easily able to defy. On a motorcycle.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": Kaiba and Yami pretend they are having difficulty teaming up and totally didn't practice their moves together beforehand. Téa sees through it.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Dartz spent all his previous appearances being portrayed as a comically ridiculous villain who nobody took seriously, but when dueling Yugi and Kaiba, he proves every bit as powerful and vicious as he was in canon. Not only that, but he also manages to put Yugi in a Heroic BSoD.
  • Breaking Speech: Dartz hits Yami with a brutal one. Yami attempts a Shut Up, Hannibal! with Dartz telling him that he was an evil pharaoh, to which Dartz points out that he doesn't even need to bring up the past by sighting what a Jerkass Yami has been since coming back to life. Yami suffers from a Heroic BSoD and nearly surrenders.
  • The Cameo: Bastion Misawa pops up out of nowhere to lampshade that the Pharaoh’s More Than Infinite combo should be mathematically impossible. Yami wonders who let the posh shithead in.
  • Cassandra Truth: Dartz attempts to prove that he did meet Yami back in Egypt by revealing his real name. Dartz does in fact reveal Yami's real name but his thick accent means Yami can't understand him. This causes him to assume Dartz was lying.
  • Continuity Cavalcade: Plenty of old jokes and catchphrases from the early episodes are referenced during the reunion after Dartz’s defeat. Joey lampshades it with, “There sure are a lot of callbacks happening today.”
  • Disappointed by the Motive: Upon hearing Dartz’s backstory, Yami is… more confused than impressed.
Yami: Remember in Infinity War when you realized that maybe what Thanos was doing kinda made sense? Yeah, this is the exact opposite of that.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Not only does Kaiba assume Dartz's goal was to replace Kaiba Corp's dragon mascot with a snake, he believes that was the biggest concern on everyone's mind. Only Tristan was concerned about that.
  • Exact Words: Kaiba promises Yami the attack he is about to use won’t destroy a single one of his friends. He’s telling the truth... because the attack is reflected back to his monster, who then absorbs it and uses it as a second attack, which does eliminates all of Yami’s friends on the field.
  • Friendship Moment: Yami mentions that he and Kaiba have actually been practicing dueling as a tag team in secret on the weekends.
  • Groin Attack: The turbulence afflicting the helicopter on their way to Dartz’s lair causes Mokuba to faceplant into Tristan’s crotch while he’s saying his “sun will rise” catchphrase. Kaiba is disappointed that no one was filming him getting hit “right in the rising sun.”
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: After spending the entire season driving the conflict with increasingly contrived Orichalcos bullshit, Dartz’s downfall is brought about by the Pharaoh beating him at his own game and doing whatever game-breaking nonsense he wants with the Thiefshipping card.
  • Oh, Crap!: Yami initially thinks Dartz's monster Cornelius only has eight attack points. Dartz then reveals the attack points were sideways, and the monster's attack points were actually infinite. Yami admits that might be a problem.
  • Take That!: The US military is the butt of many insults (Mostly from Kaiba) in this episode.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Dartz delivers a spectacular one to Yami, pointing out his Nominal Hero status and how he has been nothing but a Jerkass to his friends, always taking their friendship for granted and never even appreciating it.
  • Skewed Priorities:
    • Kaiba sees the snake statues in Dartz's hideout and assumes that Dartz's goal was to buy out Kaiba Corp and replace its dragon mascot with a snake, something no one but him and Tristan is concerned about.
    • When Dartz reveals that he was personally responsible for all the tragedies in his minions’ backstories, Rafael goes into a rage. Not because of Dartz getting Rafael’s family killed and stranding him on an island, but because the plot contrivances involved in Dartz’s claims are so unbelievably stupid and nonsensical.
  • Villain Has a Point: Dartz chews out Yami for what a jerk had been to all of his friends. Yami can’t deny it.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Dartz’s composure starts to completely shatter when Yami gets a Heroic Second Wind and starts "out-bullshitting" him at every turn.
  • Voodoo Shark: Played for laughs. When asked by Kaiba how he got to Dartz's hideout, Rafael explains he rode his bike across the ocean. Even more hilarious, the only thing about this statement Yami finds weird is that he got past the storm.
  • The Worf Effect: Kaiba and Yami use their combo moves to summon Master of Dragon Soldier on their first turn, and it fails to end the game.
