Recap / Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS Ep 59 Hanoi Returns

Go To

Baira, one of the masterminds behind the Another Incident, is currently locked away in a prison and placed under strict security. A certain man pays her a visit...

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Back from the Dead: Spectre, Faust, Baira, and Genome were all returned to normal at some point after Revolver's loss to Playmaker in their second Master Duel.
  • Best Served Cold: Revolver wasn't lying when he claimed that he'll remain dedicated to his mission of terminating the Ignis even after his loss to Playmaker in their second Master Duel; the Knights of Hanoi are back with a vengeance after Revolver breaks Baira out of imprisonment.
  • The Bus Came Back: Ryoken, Spectre, Faust, Baira, and Genome all appear for the first time since Hanoi's defeat at the end of the first season.
  • False Flag Operation: Hanoi have considered this possibility regarding the various factions involved in the second season's events and even Yusaku himself has started getting suspicious of Windy's actions.
  • Great Escape: Baira breaks out of prison with Ryoken's help, which subsequently fuels the return of the Knights of Hanoi.
  • Honor Before Reason: Defied. When Faust suggests the Knights exploit their knowledge of Playmaker and Soulburner's real identities by ambushing them in the real world and taking their Ignis, Revolver immediately shoots it down, declaring that they will keep the battle to the network. There's also the pragmatic reason that Playmaker and Soulburner have an equal if not better chance of locating the remaining Ignis, so it is in their best interests not to take the two off the board.
  • Longing Look: One of the security guards monitoring the prisoners gawks over Baira, calling her beautiful and not caring for the fact that she was responsible for the Another incident.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Why does Revolver shoot down Faust's plan of attacking Playmaker and co in the real world? Because he knows Playmaker will seek out the remaining four Ignis, meaning that the Knights can use him to lure the Ignis out of hiding.
  • Recap Episode: The episode reuses clips from previous episodes in the current season to illustrate Hanoi's observations about the happenings that have occurred since Hanoi's initial downfall.
  • Swiss-Cheese Security: The dub has Faust saying that SOL Technologies’ security has “more holes than a golf course”.
  • Wham Line: Faust informs the viewers that the Knights of Hanoi not only know Playmaker's true identity, but Soulburner's too.
  • Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?: Discussed Trope. Faust suggests, rather than dueling Playmaker and Soulburner for their Ignis, they use the fact that the Knights of Hanoi now know their true identities to mug them in the real world. Revolver however, shoots down the suggestion on the grounds that issues in the network world are not to be melded together with the real world.
