Yami Yugi

Tropes:

  • Absurd Phobia: Tristan has two: ghosts and packing.
  • Call-Back: A brief one to season 1 after Yugi receives yet another VCR tape in the mail from Pegasus.
  • Disappeared Dad: Grandpa announces that Yugi got a package from his father only to correct himself and say that it was just from the mailman, someone whom Yugi actually sees on a regular basis.
  • Dissonant Serenity: Grandpa is introduced sweeping the floor and casually telling himself that no one will find the bodies anymore.
  • Filler: The protagonists are terrified to learn that they're about to embark on yet another filler arc.
  • It Will Never Catch On: A news reporter questions Kaiba's plans for a trading card-based school.
  • Little Stowaway: Rex and Weevil hide in some luggage in order to make the flight to America with all the main characters.
  • Mean Boss: Kaiba fires his PR guy because his company's image is tanking... despite the fact that such an outcome is inevitable considering that Kaiba Corp is naturally the most obvious suspect for causing giant monster attacks. He also shoots himself in the foot by firing so many of his shareholders that Pegasus is able to buy more than 50% of the company.
  • Police Are Useless: Or at least not utilized correctly. Pegasus opts to warn the world about Dartz's Evil Plan by notifying Yugi and friends instead of anyone with actual authority.
  • Shipper on Deck: Grandpa sees Tristan and Joey in a compromising position and is happy to see that they "finally hooked up".
  • Shout-Out:
    • Why isn't anyone killing Yamcha?!
    • Kaiba wants to get in contact with Stark Industries to test out whether he can also fire people in other companies.
  • Take That!: As you may have gathered from the title, United Airlines does not fare well in this episode.
  • Thinly-Veiled Dub Country Change: The idea that the series takes place in America rather than Japan hits a pretty big snag now that the protagonists are taking an international flight to America.
