Thank you for flying Orichalcos Airlines. If you look out the window, you'll see one of the many plot holes in Season 4. Oh sorry, that was the Grand Canyon.
Alister

While Kaiba and Mokuba are flying in their plane, Alister hijacks the plane and challenges Kaiba to a duel.

Tropes

  • Anvilicious: In-Universe. Kaiba gets sick of Alister's vision of his war-torn backstory influencing his Freudian Excuse.
Kaiba: "Look, I get it, okay, Alister? War is bad. Death is bad. My stepfather was bad. Now will you please stop beating me over the head with all this symbolism and end this pretentious charade already?!"
  • Big "YES!": Kaiba screams this when the three dragons come to save him and the plane so hard that Téa describes it as him having "the biggest orgasm of his life."
  • Contrived Coincidence: Apparently, Joey and Tristan managed to catch up with Yugi and Téa when they were in a desert while carrying a comatose Rex.
Tristan: Weren't we all in the middle of the desert like five minutes ago?
Joey: A plane just landed exactly where we all were with the help of three legendary dragons and that is the plot hole you were all focusing on?
  • Exact Words: Kaiba convinces Alistair to not leave by assuring him that, of all his opponents, he's the closest to wiping out the floor with him. Turns out he meant it- as far as he's concerned, none of his opponents was even close to defeating him, while Alistair was at 0.1.
  • Jerkass Has a Point / Misplaced Retribution: One of several reasons (not counting his own jerkass tendencies) that Kaiba absolutely does not take Alister seriously is that Seto had nothing to do with the war that killed his brother and in fact, shut down his company's weapons production once he came to power. While he still has military equipment, he doesn't sell it to anyone and just uses it for his own company's sake. Further, the reason Alister hates Kaiba Corp was because Gozaburo was the one selling weapons- which were being bought by the extremely vague nations that Alister lived in. Gozaburo wasn't even the one who killed his brother, he just sold the weapons. Again, Seto is innocent in this and has already taken the company away from its military roots.
  • New Powers as the Plot Demands: The Seal of Orichalcos can create illusions of the plane passengers and show a vision in the past, according to this episode.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Mokuba screwed up twice. Once in piloting the plane when it was already set on auto-pilot and contacting KaibaCorp military division just when Kaiba tried to convince Alister that he is not his step-father.
    Alister: "You lied to me!"
Kaiba: "Good job, Mokuba. Real big help."
    Mokuba: "Yay! Go, Team Kaiba!"
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Alister thought about leaving the plane and letting Kaiba die in a plane crash. Kaiba persuaded him to stay so that he could beat him.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: Kaiba thinks joining the Mile-High Club means "dueling on a plane." Yugi almost corrects him but decides to play along and agree with the definition.
  • Take That!: When shown Alister's war-torn background, Kaiba calls it a place far worse than the Shadow Realm- he's in a Young Adult novel!
  • Tempting Fate: As soon as Kaiba swore to Alister that he didn't have any war machine, they arrived upon Mokuba's contact.
