Recap / Yu Gi Oh Anime S 3 E 116 Brothers In Arms 3

Go To

With Mokuba brainwashed to be on Noah's side, Kaiba has to pull all the stops to win as Noah unleashes an all-out assault with his deck masters. Using his Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Kaiba is able to remind Noah and Mokuba was true family is all about. Unfortunately, Noah has one more trick up his sleeve: his newest deck master, Shinato, King Of A Higher Plane! As Noah wins and turns the Kaiba brothers to stone, Yami Yugi is enraged that Noah resorted to cheating. Wanting to avenge the poor brothers, Yami takes Kaiba's place with just 400 life points compared to Noah's 7,400!

Tropes:

  • Darkest Hour: For Kaiba. After an entire arc of being forced on a Pensieve Flashback tour of his most painful childhood memories of his abusive adoptive father, he's now dueling for his body and literally everything he's devoted his life to achieving, his little brother — the only person in the world that he cares about — has been brainwashed into forgetting him, he can't attack his opponent without hurting his brother, and attacks in this world cause real pain and damage. After taking three blasts of piercing damage in a row, he's knocked flat on his back and ends up trembling on his hands and knees, not giving up but knowing that if things don't change, this will be his last turn.
  • Down to the Last Play: Kaiba intentionally invokes this with his Last Turn trap card.
  • For the Evulz: Noah turns the Kaiba brothers to stone purely for his own sadistic enjoyment, even though it throws a major wrench into his plan to take over Kaiba's body so he can run Kaiba Corp. in the real world).
  • Friend-or-Idol Decision:
Noah: What's it gonna be — your victory... or Mokuba?
Kaiba: (whispering slowly) All right, kid... I'll end my turn.
  • Hostage Situation/Human Shield: Noah uses Mokuba this way to prevent Kaiba from attacking him.
  • No Fair Cheating:
    • Yami takes this role — he points out that what Noah did (using Mokuba as a Human Shield to stop Kaiba from making a winning attack) is blatant, unambiguous cheating no matter how you look at it, and he has no right to claim he won this duel. He convinces Noah to let the duel continue with him dueling in Kaiba's place.
    • In the Japanese version, Yugi points out that Kaiba had him dead to rights if he just kept Different Dimension Dragon on the field instead, because no matter what, it would have been still there at the end of Last Turn.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: During his "The Reason You Suck" Speech, Yami accused Noah of being guilty of the same foul play the Big Five used, which he scolded them for.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business:
    • The psychological torture and physical pain of the duel finally drives the cold, aloof Seto Kaiba to his breaking point. With all his mental defenses stripped away, he allows himself to openly appear vulnerable in front of his brother, his enemy, and the peers he's always looked down on, visibly trembling as he begs his brother to remember him, confessing how much he suffered as a kid and how it was Mokuba who saved him when he was ready to give up. Under normal or even dire circumstances, Kaiba would never act this way.
    • It happens again when Mokuba runs to his brother after the duel's over. Despite having just lost a duel, which he normally finds unbearable, Seto is so relieved to see his brother free from Noah's Mind Control that he just smiles — the only sincere smile out of genuine happiness rather than a smug grin that the audience will ever see from him.
  • The Power of Family: Mokuba's bond with his brother allows him to break free of Noah's mind control once he sees the Blue-Eyes White Dragon.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Noah afflicting Taken for Granite on Kaiba and Mokuba enrages Yami Yugi to the point that he challenges him to a Final Battle.
