Yugi is lured into a circus tent to duel Marik's next henchman Arkana, a former stage magician who considers himself to be the true master of the Dark Magician. Arkana locks both of them into his special dueling arena where only the winner will escape and the loser will be sent to the Shadow Realm! Thanks to his manipulation of his cards, Dark Magician appears in his opening hand. Having anticipated his tricks, however, Yugi plays Card Destruction almost immediately, forcing them both to discard their hands and guarantee they both play with a clean slate. He is also able to summon his own Dark Magician and attack Arkana's life points directly, bringing him down to less than half after just two turns. However, the duel is still far from over.
Tropes
- Bowdlerise: The English dub of this episode is infamous for replacing the buzz saws that will cut the losing duelist's feet off, with "Dark Energy Disks" that will banish anyone they touch to the Shadow Realm.
- The Worf Effect: Seemingly played straight in this episode when Yugi's Card Destruction forces Arkana to discard his Dark Magician before he can even get a chance to summon it. However, this is subverted in the next episode when he brings it back.
