The hotshot American card shark Bandit Keith has arrived on the island, wanting payback for Pegasus humiliating him in a tournament. With his lackeys, Bonz, Sid, and Zygor, he plans to win his way into the tournament finals and help them get there as well—or so he says. Looking for weak duelists to crush, they decide Joey fits the bill perfectly and kidnap him when he wanders off.
In a cave made to look like a graveyard, Joey wakes up and is horrified at Bonz's skull-like face. Keith refuses to duel Joey himself, but he coaches Bonz in the duel, advising him to let his non-Zombie monsters be destroyed so he can bring them back with Call of the Haunted, which makes them undead, indestructible, and stronger every turn. Meanwhile, Yugi and his friends search for Joey.
This episode contains examples of:
- Actually Pretty Funny: Joey is clearly scared by Bonz, but angrily tells him that his Freak Out wasn't because of the graveyard field or Bonz's scary speech, but rather due to his creepy face. Bandit Keith, Syd, and Zygor start laughing, admitting that Joey has a point as Bonz's face even unnerves them. Bonz is understandably not amused.
- Back from the Dead: Call of the Haunted does this to Bonz's monsters, turning them into Undead Counterpart Zombie monsters and making them stronger every time they're destroyed.
- Cliffhanger: The episode ends with Joey now facing an army of powerful, invincible Zombies.
- Foreshadowing: Mai's promise that she owes Yugi star chips will come in handy later on.
- Nightmare Sequence: The episode begins with Joey, still fresh from the Curb-Stomp Battle Kaiba handed him in the previous episode, having a nightmare where he's chased by Kaiba's Blue-Eyes White Dragon and ends up a scared dog at Kaiba's feet. Upon waking up, Joey vows to show Kaiba who'll be eating the dog food on the island.
- No-Sell: Bonz's resurrected Zombie monsters can't be harmed by Joey's attacks.
- Sunglasses at Night: Keith wears his shades in an unlit cave. So how can he see anything?
