"Future Worf and the Margarita of the South Pacific" is an episode of Young Sheldon that first aired October 6, 2022.

Mary has recently started her new job at the bowling alley with Brenda (Melissa Peterman), when she runs into Pastor Rob (Dan Byrd), who is there with his new girlfriend Shannon (Francesca Xuereb), whom Mary babysat when she was a teenager.

Brenda later finds Mary crying in her office, and invites her to go to a Wild West-themed bar. At the bar, Mary vehemently denies feeling any attraction to Rob, but Brenda sees through it. Mary and Brenda then hit the dancefloor.

Meanwhile, Sheldon and Missy are trying to figure out ways to make extra money for the family. Sheldon considers writing for Star Trek, and he pitches an episode he wrote to George, who seems disinterested, but ends up pointing out a critical plot hole that Sheldon can't figure out how to close.

Sheldon then devises a system of digital currency where each unit of currency is stored as a specific, mathematically-rare number (i.e., cryptocurrency), and asks Georgie for help with the scheme, but Georgie refuses after Sheldon tells him that a computer to host the currency will cost $500,000.

Meanwhile, Missy gets a job at the comic book store, utilizing information from Sheldon's comic books to appear knowledgeable. Sheldon is deeply jealous of Missy.

Meanwhile, Dr. Linkletter (Ed Begley Jr.) asks Connie out on a date. Linkletter makes an overt sexual advance towards her, but she rejects it.

Tropes

  • Continuity Nod: In Sheldon's Star Trek script, Wesley Crusher has a Big Damn Heroes moment. In The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon says that his favorite Next Generation character is Crusher.
  • Former Teen Rebel: Connie tells George that Mary used to be a "wild child", and that he wasn't the first guy she was "wild" with.
  • It Will Never Catch On: Missy and Georgie think that Sheldon's idea for alternative currency is a scam. Today, it's called cryptocurrency.
  • Shout-Out:
    • To Albert Einstein: If Connie has sex with Linkletter, she'd be having sex with someone who once shook Einstein's hand. Linkletter mentions that he didn't wash his hands for a week after shaking hands with Einstein. Connie remarks that that doesn't entice her to sex with him.
    • To the Green Lantern and the Hulk: Missy lets Sheldon know that the new issue of the Green Lantern has just come in, not so much to be helpful as to rub it in that she's got a job he wants. Missy also knows that the Hulk is green, but maybe not so much more besides that.
    • To Hamburger Helper: Georgie praises the affordability and practicality of the hamburger side dish kit.
    • To Jeopardy!: Missy suggests Sheldon go on the game show but Sheldon has such a strong dislike of the answers as questions format that he can't put aside.
    • To Star Trek: The Next Generation: Sheldon considers becoming a writer for the show in order to make extra money for the family.
    • To Roger Staubach: Mentioned by Brenda. Of course Mary doesn't know who the famous Dallas Cowboys quarterback is. Likewise, George doesn't know Patrick Stewart is the Shakespearean actor who plays Captain Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation.
    • To X-Men. Missy gets a job at a comic book store by parroting Sheldon's description of the X-Men.
  • Take That!: to cryptocurrency. It is described as a scam, and Georgie says that it would only work because of people's arrogance.
  • Two Scenes, One Dialogue: As Missy applies for a job at the comic book store, the manager asks her what her favorite comic book is. Missy flashes back to Sheldon talking about X-Men at the car, and then back to Missy finishing Sheldon's words.
