Recap / Xiaolin Showdown Sizing Up Omi

Go To

Wuya has a new minion- a giant cyclops. The Cyclops seems unbeatable, so Omi combines the Changing Chopsticks and Reverse Mirror to become a giant himself. When this doesn't work out, Omi finds becoming his normal size to be a difficult chore.

Tropes:

  • Call-Back: The Wings of Tanabi, first mentioned in "Days Past" make an appearance. For extra points, it's found in a well, where Dojo said he hid it.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Apparently, at some point before this episode, Kimiko came up with the idea to have Dojo microchipped (which can be tracked with her GPS-device) in the case that one of the monks wouldn't be able to ride on Dojo after a Shen Gong Wu has activated.
  • David vs. Goliath: Exaggerated in the second Xiaolin Showdown, with tiny Omi facing off against the Cyclops who was already bigger than him before he shrunk. Clay compares it to a termite going up against a grizzly bear.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Omi becomes a giant before they have to go anywhere. When it's time to seek out a new Wu, he's too big to ride Dojo.
  • I'm Standing Right Here: Just before the second Xiaolin Showdown, the other monks comment on how miniaturized Omi doesn't stand much chance against the humongous Cyclops, much to Omi's dismay as he's right at their feet.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Based on his reaction to hearing about it, Dojo was not aware that Kimiko had microchipped him.
  • Once an Episode: Two Xiaolin Showdowns in this episode.
    • The first one is a "Last Man Standing"-style showdown on rock pillars pitting Clay against the Cyclops for the Glove of Jisaku, with Clay's Reversing Mirror versus Cyclops' Wings of Tinabi; Cyclops wins after kicking Clay's rock pillar apart as Cyclops himself is slowly slipping down his, causing Clay to hit the floor first.
    • The second showdown is a Shen Yi Bu Dare pitting Omi against the Cyclops in a "Race Across the Valley of Death" for the Thorn of Thunderbolt, with Omi's Orb of Tornami and Wings of Tinabi versus Cyclops' Reversing Mirror and Jetbootsu; Omi wins after using the Orb to freeze the ground and cause Cyclops to slip and fall, and even though Cyclops zaps Omi's Wings of Tinabi out of the air, Omi manages to slide to the finish before Cyclops does.
  • Sadistic Choice: Jack Spicer presents the monks with one: he'll give them Reversing Mirror in exchange for all their Shen Gong Wu. Wuya applauds him for such a tactic.
  • Sizeshifter: Omi all throughout the episode. First combines the Changing Chopsticks with the Reversing Mirror and becomes too big. Then uses the Changing Chopsticks alone to return to his normal size, but becomes too small. Due to Clay losing the Reversing Mirror in a Showdown, he's stuck in this form for a few days, until he defeats Cyclops in a Showdown and regains the Reversing Mirror, allowing him to return to his normal size.
