Recap / Xiaolin Showdown Mala Mala Jong

Go To

After winning the Heart of Jong, Wuya has Jack create Mala Mala Jong, a demonic warrior formed from Shen Gong Wu. With a supposedly unstoppable monster at her disposal, the Heylin Witch attacks the Xiaolin Temple. Can the Dragon Warriors figure out Mala Mala Jong's weakness before all is lost?

Tropes

  • Antagonist Title: The episode's title refers to the monster made of various Shen Gong Wu.
  • Bittersweet Ending: The monks managed to defeat Mala Mala Jong, while also managing to retrieve the Golden Tiger Claws and obtain all the Wu Mala Mala Jong was made of in the process. But while Omi, Clay, and Kimiko are promoted to apprentices for their efforts, Raimundo is the only one held back for his brash actions and disobedience. This greatly upsets Raimundo, who declares he is sick of life at the temple, and Wuya sees another opportunity in this.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The Golden Tiger Claws, which Omi sent to the Earth's core previously, are briefly mentioned by Jack at the beginning of the episode when he is going over a spreadsheet on who has which Shen Gong Wu. They are brought back at the end of the episode to remove the Heart of Jong.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Despite being told how powerful Mala Mala Jong is, Raimundo returns to the Xiaolin Temple to fight. He gets captured, and Wuya is able to learn where the Shen Gong Wu have been hidden. This is why Raimundo wasn't promoted to Apprentice-level.
Master Fung: Your brash and impulsive actions nearly led us to the brink of disaster.
  • Near-Villain Victory: Mala Mala Jong already had Kimiko, Clay, and Dojo in his grasp and was about to crush them when Omi pulled the Heart of Jong out.
  • Never My Fault: Rather than accept that it was his Leeroy Jenkins moment that led Wuya to the Shen Gong Wu, Raimundo chooses to see Master Fung as an Ungrateful Bastard.
  • Oh, Crap!: Master Fung's reaction, when Omi reveals that the Shen Gong Wu he lost was the Heart of Jong. This is one of the few times he has broken his stoic appearance, and for good reason.
  • Once an Episode: The "Squirrel's Harvest" Xiaolin Showdown pitting Omi against Jack for the Heart of Jong, the winner being the one to gather the most acorns in 2 minutes, with Omi's Jetbootsu versus Jack's Lotus Twister; Jack wins after stretching himself into a human-sized rubber band to slingshot Omi into a tree, knocking down more than enough acorns for Jack to win the challenge by the end of 2 minutes.
  • Rule of Three: It takes Omi three (onscreen) attempts to make it to the Earth's core with the Serpent's Tail.
  • Screams Like a Little Girl: How Jack responds after Mala Mala Jong is re-animated.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: Drastically averted as Raimundo's attempt to enforce this trope backfires and nearly causes the villains to prevail.
  • Squirrels in My Pants: Omi gets a squirrel down the back of his shirt.
  • Start of Darkness: Raimundo's begins when he is denied promotion to Apprentice-level with the others because of his brash actions, and he angrily storms out of the temple.
Raimundo: I'm sick of this place! I never should have left Brazil!
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Raimundo feels Master Fung is this when he doesn't promote him like the others because he came back to the Temple to save him.
Raimundo: Hey, you know, whatever. If that's the thanks I get for trying to save his neck, fine! Won't happen again.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Wuya, not for the first time, ditches Jack the minute he constructs Mala Mala Jong.
