Uncanny X-Men Vol 1 #493 is Chapter Six of Thirteen in the Messiah Complex event. It was written by Ed Brubaker, pencilled by Billy Tan, inked by Danny Miki and Allen Martinez, colored by Frank D’Armada, lettered by Joe Caramagna and edited by Nick Lowe, Axel Alonso and Will Panzo. It has a cover date of February 2008.
In the aftermath of the events of the last issue, the X-Men fight against the two Sentinels that have turned against them as their Darkest Hour begins.
Tropes:
- Cast from Lifespan: Nezhno Abidemi/Gentle is able to increase his muscle mass to the point that he is able to knock back a Sentinel but Cyclops immediately points out that overuse will kill him.
- Darkest Hour: In the end, the X-Men are wounded, the New X-Men barely got away from the Reavers alive, all the telepaths have been taken out and The Medic Elixir was injured by a falling wall. Left with no other options, Cyclops creates the black-ops X-Force.
- Heroic RRoD: Logan and Kurt begin the story seriously wounded from the events of the last chapter.
