Episode 14: Revolution

Takes place 25 September-1 October 2010.

Short version

The Team fights off an attack by the "Injustice League", including depowering Poison Ivy and freeing the hero Teth Adom from Black Adam's control.

Longer version

After demonstrating a technique to resist orange light assimilation, Lantern Gardner asks about Paul's mental state. Paul protests at first, but the next day, after an unusually brutal mission, he is brought to realise that he has become increasingly paranoid and obsessive since the Red Robots invaded his home. They compromise; Wonder Woman arranges for him to be allowed to install extra defences in the Mountain, and he agrees to take his ring off regularly to meditate and clear his head. This appears to have the desired calming effect.

A week later, a group of supervillains calling themselves the Injustice League attack cities across the world with giant enhanced plants. Batman sends the Team to stop the villains, while the Justice League fights the plants.

In the fight, Paul destroys a scarab amulet to free the soul of Teth Adom, Shazam's previous champion, from Black Adam's control, then exposes himself and Adam to a "magic powder" (including LSD) prepared by Constantine. This results in the three of them ending up in a mental plane, where Theodore Adam and Teth Adom have to prove their worthiness to the Kahndaqi gods. Paul gives Adom advice that helps him to put his duty above his desire for revenge on Shazam; Adom succeeds in taking over Theodore Adam's body, and Theodore's soul is eaten by Ammut after he demonstrates his unworthiness and general loathsomeness.

While waiting for the League, Swamp Thing appears and depowers Poison Ivy. Paul is then able to convince Swamp Thing that cooperation would be beneficial for both parties and is given a fruit he can use to contact Swamp Thing in the future.

There is no Renegade interlude, but we later learn that since he isn't working with John Constantine, he merely destroyed the scarab amulet, without entering Adam/Adom's mindscape, leaving the two personalities in a constant deadlocked struggle for control.

Equivalent canon episode: "Revelation". The origin of "Revolution" is not entirely clear, although there is certainly upheaval as a result of the Injustice League's attack.

  • Battle in the Center of the Mind: Theo Adam and Teth Adom fight for control over the former's body. The latter wins and the former is consumed by Ammut.
  • Call-Back: Events from numerous previous episodes are brought back to attention.
    • The Reds' attack on the Cave and Paul's feeling of helplessness are the reason for him feeling an increased amount of avarice and mental instability.
  • The Cavalry Arrives Late: Swamp Thing appears after the Injustice League is defeated. He does, however, De-power Poison Ivy.
  • Gondor Calls for Aid: Downplayed, as they're not exactly up against a wall, but before the fight against the Injustice League starts, Paul takes the time to transport Captain Cornwall and his son to where they can do some good, reach out to Swamp Thing and Lantern Medphyll for help in controlling the plants, and make sure that the shaman of London is aware of the situation.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Paul developing bonds with his teammates was so that he could use his ring to help them effectively. His increased protectiveness when unstable is also a result of this.
  • Heroic Willpower: Lantern Gardner is able to resist orange light assimilation by willing himself to be exactly as he is.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: Right after Paul thinks there is no way supervillains are working together behind the scenes, the Injustice League make their debut and state their demands.
  • Jaw Drop: Robin briefly does this when Paul reveals that he knows the Joker's Secret Identity.
  • No-Sell: Guy developed a method for Green Lanterns to resist an Orange ring's Assimilation attack.
  • Painting the Medium: Paul's text changes while he's in Mental World.
  • Staging an Intervention: Guy and Diana stage one for Paul when the latter is showing signs of mental instability due to his ring. Because of this, Paul decides he needs to spend at least one hour a day meditating without the ring to prevent it from happening again.
  • Word of God: Batman left out some of the details of Robin using the ring out of respect for Robin's privacy.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: Paul refuses to believe that there is some sort of secret society and believes that they might just be sharing resources. He actually notes that he might be this when he is proven wrong.
