Tropes

  • Beleaguered Assistant: The assistant Helen Anderson fires was this, and doesn’t seem to have been the first. Diana also agrees to be one for the sake of the case.
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: Paul Sullivan and his cronies in the pharmaceutical giant are exemplars, plotting to kill in order to cover up a bad batch of medication they sent out.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Diana is firmly center stage in this episode, in both her assignment and her relationship with Christie.
  • Double Date: Neal and Sara have dinner with Diana and Christie.
  • He Knows Too Much: Sullivan’s henchman Carter kills Helen’s witness, and comes close to doing the same to her with a syringe.
  • How's Your British Accent?: Diana is in this mode for most of the episode. As part of her cover she has a background growing up in Manchester, where Marsha Thomason is actually from.
  • Moment Killer: Neal and Sara are about to get it on when Mozzie walks in. Sara lampshades it when she leaves, saying that “the mood is sufficiently killed.”
  • Outside-Context Problem: Throwing a birthday party for Helen’s son is this for the team. Jones thinks that they could just buy some balloons and streamers. Peter deals with the problem by calling in professional event planner Elizabeth.
  • Sexiled: Mozzie alludes to this after walking in on Neal and Sara, saying that Neal should have just put a sock on the doorknob.
  • When You Coming Home, Dad?: Helen Anderson admits to paying less attention to her son than she should. “That’s why I have a Pulitzer and not a Mommy of the Year mug.”
