The girls and Caleb try to tell Elyon the truth about Phobos and Meridian, but this is made difficult when he teaches his sister to create ghostly copies of herself to confuse them. However, Hay Lin overhears the real Elyon telling Phobos about wanting her sketchbook back.
- Doppelgänger Spin: At Phobos' suggestion, Elyon creates hundreds of copies of herself which lack shadows and dissapear when touched to lure the Guardians away from the castle.
- Downer Ending: The Guardians and Caleb manage to escape from Phobos' forces but without being able to warn Elyon about the danger where she is.
- Former Friends Photo: Rather drawing, as in the end, Elyon's last drawing which has been torn in half by Will's fighting the lurdens is revealed to be one of Cornelia, much to Elyon's surprise.
- Hidden Depths: Elyon is revealed to have a talent for drawing.
- Jerkass Has a Point: Elyon when confronting Caleb, points he also led her to believe he was from Earth too.
- Memento MacGuffin: Elyon's sketchbook which she left on Earth, which gives the Guardians the idea of finding it to use it as bait to talk to Elyon.
- Sweet Tooth: One of the Lurdens who find Elyon's sketchbook on her old Earth bedroom also finds a chocolate bar, which allows Blunk to track them.
- Tug Of War: Will and the Lurdens have one for Elyon's sketchbook, ending with the Lurdens getting the book and Will getting half of a sketching.
- You Are Grounded!: Susan to Will for not cleaning her room up and later for running away.
