The Worst Couple

Tori and the gang participate as contestants on Sinjin's game show, but it reveals secrets about Jade and Beck's relationship which proves to be a challenge for them.

Meanwhile, Tori anxiously awaits the release of a new phone.

Tropes:

  • Ask a Stupid Question...: Trina angrily demands if the rest of the group aren't going to deny Jade's claim none of them like her. None of them answer.
  • Character Development: Beck realizes that his relationship with Jade has serious problems. He insists that, rather than go through Jade being all Green-Eyed Monster and yanking their chains, they should talk it out. Jade refusing to do so leads to him deciding to break up with her.
  • Epic Fail: As Beck points to, it's a big problem that they were voted the Worst Couple on Sinjin's show, because:
Beck: We were voted "Worst Couple", and the other two couples weren't even real couples... and one had Robbie in it!
  • Friendship Denial: Jade's thoughts on everyone else in the group (save Andre).
Beck: We fight so much, even our friends don't want to hang out with us.
Jade: Tori's not my friend, I only tolerate Robbie, no one likes Trina and Cat's basically a pet!
    Cat: Arf!
  • Implied Death Threat: When Trina, hearing Jade and Beck's relationship is on the rocks, suggests he could start dating her if he and Jade break up, Jade promptly flings a pillow at Trina.
Jade: Next time, it's a hammer!
  • One, Two, Skip a Few: Cat reminds Jade, "Don't forget three", as she claims everyone forgets it. Later when putting out the cards, she forgets three herself.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story:
    • Played for Drama. Beck and Jade realize that their relationship is foundering. While Beck wants to talk it out, Jade keeps insisting nothing is wrong. Cue about twenty minutes of this, complete with Cat Fainting when they try to bring her in as an intermediary. Eventually, Beck gains a serious expression on his face and refuses to meet Jade's ultimatum of walking through a door as she counts down. This leads to their breakup.
    • Tori's phone is broken, and it puts her mom on repeated speakerphone when she talks about embarrassing things. After a few weeks of humiliation, she decides to buy a new Pearphone GX since she doesn't know how long it'll take before the Pearphone XT comes out, but it turns out the XT was released that morning, and everyone has one now.
  • Shout-Out: Queries for Couples is a parody of The Newlywed Game.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: It turns out Beck is Not So Stoic on learning that he and Jade aren't actually happy together. Before, he was fine with hanging out with her and having their Belligerent Sexual Tension. It's not as fun when he admits out loud that "I'm not satisfied with the state of our relationship!" and is shocked to realize that it's true.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: When Jade realizes Beck isn't coming outside to save their relationship, she leaves visibly heartbroken and the entire mood goes dour. However, this episode also one of Jade's worst appearances. She instigates every fight she gets into with Beck, plainly states that the people she regularly associates with aren't her friends, and even hit Sinjin with her car, breaking his leg. Beck dumping her can conversely be seen as cathartic, seeing as it's the closest thing to a punishment she received for everything she did here.
  • The Unreveal: The rest of Sinjin's third question was never revealed, due to Jade interrupting.
  • Wham Episode: Jade and Beck break up, this time for real.
  • Wham Line: During an argument on Sinjin’s show, Beck yells, “I’m not happy with our relationship!” Jade stops yelling and everyone stares at them in silence.
