Recap / Ultraman Z Ep 14: Four-Dimensional Capriccio

Go To

With the sudden appearance of the Four-Dimensional Monster Bullton, the STORAGE base is thrown into chaos! Time and space become warped and twisted, transforming the STORAGE base into a dimensional prison. Meanwhile, Haruki is confronted with a mysterious phenomenon!

Episode Tropes:

  • Brick Joke: Episodes 1 and 7 has Hebikura giving the excuse to use a bathroom when he's actually teleporting out and going undercover as Juggler. In this episode, Celebro has Bullton sent Juggler to STORAGE's toilet, of all places and the alien just goes along with it, hence why Juggler barely did nothing to help dispelling Bullton.
  • The Bus Came Back: Bullton returns after three episodes trapping Zero in the fourth dimension.
  • Dare to Be Badass: Said word for word by Haruki's dad:
"You can't protect everyone you'd like to. Even if you reach out to help them, there's a limit to your reach. So.. for those within reach.. and the justice I believe in... I protect those I believe in with all my might. I believe that's my duty"
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: After Bullton's destruction, Yuka tries to refrain herself from going out and obtain its samples like a drug addict in their withdrawal.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Although Juggler admits he admires Celebro's rapsheet upon confronting him, he bluntly points out that the latter picked the wrong place at the wrong time to cause a commotion around STORAGE's HQ. Makes sense though as the whole crew are the closest to his Morality Pets.
  • Famed In-Story: Apparently Juggler reveals that Celebro has quite the infamy across the universe for creating chaos on various planets.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Inaba just display his use of cards for magic tricks. The next thing we know, Z Gamma Future uses energy cards for countering Bullton's tricks.
    • A wormhole created following Bullton's destruction served as a gateway for Greeza. The next episode reveals that its existence predated the creation of the universe and Bullton's existence was to accept all anomalies, which also included keeping Greeza at bay.
  • "Groundhog Day" Loop: Because Bullton's fourth dimension also affects time, it causes Haruki and Yoko to go circulating in loops.
  • Hidden Depths: Again, Inaba shows what he's capable of, ranging from filleting a giant tuna and performing magic trick cards.
  • It Amused Me: The reason why Celebro creates chaos on various planets, as he reveals it to Juggler.
  • Meaningful Name: The Capriccio on the episode's title was just there through Tsuburaya's subtitle, as in Japanese, its written as "Four Dimensional Madness". Capriccio itself is an Italian for something that's out of the blue, given this episode's theme of Bullton's tricks.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Apparently, Bullton's destruction does not fix all the chaos Celebro caused, and it only grew worse by the next episode, where it's revealed that Bullton's very existence seals Greeza within it.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Celebro unleashes Bullton just to mess with everyone. Unfortunately little did he knew was that Haruki was still under a massive Heroic BSoD from killing monsters and Bullton sent Haruki to the past, where he actually met his father and finally burying his insecurities.
  • Put on a Bus: Sevengar is finally decommissioned and sent to a museum as King Joe has become STORAGE's main robot.
  • Rewatch Bonus: This episode makes it clear why Haruki’s dad took a long time to retrieve the ball during his flashback three episodes ago.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Time Master: A new ability to Bullton is that the fourth dimension ability is capable of bending time itself. It creates "Groundhog Day" Loop without anyone realizing and even sends Haruki to meet with his late father in the past.
  • Toilet Humor: If Kanegon's explosive diarrhea from the previous episode wasn't enough to give viewers a belly laugh, Juggler being sent back to the bathroom — the same spot where he can assume his Majin form undetected — after Celebro uses Bullton's Time Master powers to send him back to that exact spot before their confrontation. What does Juggler do after he ends up back in the bathroom? He stops for a while and takes a whizz.
  • Wham Shot: Bullton's destruction leaves behind a gaping wormhole in the end of the episode, which heralds the appearance of Greeza in the next episode.
  • Your Mind Makes It Real: Yuka finds out that everyone's subconsciousness is what influenced Bullton's four-dimension space, namely the reason why Yoko is unable to get to King Joe is that she doesn't actually wanted to and Haruki previously wished to eat the tuna that Inaba filleted for the crew.
