Tropes

  • Adaptational Nonsapience: This version of Gargorgon seems to lack the sapience of the original one, being simply an enforcer of the Dark Giants.
  • A Birthday, Not a Break: Even in her 18th birthday, Yuna finds herself menaced by the Dark Giants' machinations. In addition to her getting the whole bombshell about her father's past and her connection to Yuzare.
  • Break Out the Museum Piece: Mr. Shizuma gets his original and long-unused GUTS Wing running in order to fight Gaogorgon.
  • The Bus Came Back: In a way, while Tiga had made many reappearances, the Neo Frontier Universe hadn't been explored or focused on since Ultraman Saga where the only shown place was the Mars base from Dyna. Here Mr. Shizuma's flashbacks depict its Earth for the first time in years as well as the original GUTS' Earth base.
  • Call-Back: Gargorgon is defeated by Yuzare in the past in the same manner the original one was beaten back in Ultraman X: by having her petrifying beam reflected at her, though in here it doesn't quite have the same lethal results.
  • Eye Scream: With the GUTS Wing, Mr. Shizuma vaporizes Gargorgon's mouth eye in order to negate its petrifying abilities.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: Trigger uses the Zeperion Sword Finish in Multi Type to vertically bisect Gargorgon, causing both halves to slowly fall apart before exploding.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Attempted by Mr. Shizuma to help Trigger, as he remotely controls his GUTS Wing to get close to Gargorgon so he can blast her eye off and weaken the kaiju enough for Trigger to finish the job, at the cost of his plane being petrified; luckily Gargorgon's destruction prevents it from being a full-blown sacrifice.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Gargorgon was defeated in the past by Yuzare when the latter used a special shield to reflect her petrifying beam back at her.
  • Mythology Gag: Mr. Shizuma was taken to Trigger's Earth by a wormhole and was left stranded away from his home dimension seemingly unable to return, not unlike how Shin Asuka/Ultraman Dyna ended up at the end of his series after his sacrifice against Gransphire.
  • Recycled Soundtrack: The BGM for GUTS is reused in this episode when Mr. Shizuma remote pilots his original GUTS Wing to assist Trigger against Gargorgon.
  • The Reveal:
    • Mr. Shizuma is a native of the Neo Frontier Universe and arrived at Trigger's Earth 30 years before the series after being sucked in by a mysterious wormhole while in a mission, and he did not create the GUTS Wing all by himself, instead he repaired the GUTS Wing he piloted and modified it as the prototype for the GUTS Falcon.
    • Captain Tatsumi was aware of Yuna being Yuzare's host and Mr. Shizuma's true origins all along, he informs the rest of GUTS Select about it after being told to by Shizuma.
    • Yurika Shizuma, Yuna's deceased mother, was aware of her daughter's situation as a host of Yuzare since she herself was a descendant of the white-clad woman.
    • There are drawings of monsters confronted by GUTS Select in the present day all over the world. And a new section of Yuzare's stone tablet is revealed at the end.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Gargorgon was trapped in stone for 30 million years before breaking free in the present.
  • Taken for Granite: Carmeara awakened Gargorgon in order to petrify Yuzare and bring the woman to her. Yuzare used her powers to reflect the attack back at the kaiju, petrifying it. Later on, Mr. Shizuma's GUTS Wing almost ends up petrified by Gargorgon's attacks, but Trigger manages to kill the kaiju in time to prevent it.
  • Wham Episode: And how!
    • First of all, it's revealed that Mr. Shizuma came from the Neo Frontier to Trigger's Earth through a strange wormhole, and the GUTS Wing he "developed" was actually a GUTS Wing he piloted in his time as a GUTS member before he ended up stranded on Trigger's Earth, which he repaired on time to deal with Deathdrago.
    • Yuna's mother, Yurika, and Yuna by extension, is a descendant of Yuzare which is why Yuna hosts the ancient woman's spirit. Yurika was aware of this and had her husband make a promise to protect their daughter and the world.
    • Yuna starts being more in sync with Yuzare and is even able to summon her at will.
    • It's revealed that Captain Seiya was aware as well of Yuna's identity as Yuzare's host all along.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: After being sucked in the wormhole, Mr. Shizuma ended up being stranded on Trigger's Earth, unable to return home. He settled down on this new world afterwards but is shown to still long for his home dimension.
