Give it your all, GUTS Select!

First Aired: 11/13/2021

Directed By: Tomonobu Koshi

Screenplay By: Sumio Uetake

A new monster, Metsu-Orochi, comes out of the body of Metsu-Orga and absorbs energy of all kinds! To defeat this huge monster even more powerful than Metsu-Orga, GUTS-Select put their plans to action. Right in the thick of things, Trigger Dark appears again! Kengo and the team do all they can to survive this crisis!

Tropes

  • Broke Your Arm Punching Out Cthulhu: The Gargorgon Hyper Key successfully petrified Metsu-Orochi, unfortunately it also petrified the Nursecannon and the petrification turned out to only be a temporary measure, forcing GUTS Select to work on a more permanent solution.
  • Godzilla Threshold: After Metsu-Orga evolved into Metsu-Orochi, Captain Tatsumi orders the use of the Gargorgon Hyper Key. Which proves powerful enough to petrify Metsu-Orochi (albeit temporarily) but causes the ship's cannon to be petrified.
  • Gory Discretion Shot: The flashbacks of Ignis expand on the day where Lishuria was destroyed, as we see his friends calling out to him seconds before Hudram killed them, but all we hear is their screams as Ignis watches in horror.
  • Immediate Sequel: The episode picks up at the exact moment the previous one left, with Metsu-Orochi emerging to give the heroes a tougher fight.
  • Kinetic Weapons Are Just Better: A very justified example, Metsu-Orochi absorbs energy blasts instantly, rendering the usual laser weapons completely useless besides the Gargorgon key which has the petrification effect. So Tatsumi has GUTS Select and all TPU members employ old weapons with bullets and missiles against the kaiju so that Metsu-Orochi can't use their projectiles to power itself up.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Darrgon advices Carmeara to not fight GUTS Select after her fight with Trigger Dark left her with grave injuries, owing it to himself learning that humans aren't puny weaklings and are truly dangerous.
  • Logical Weakness: Since Metsu-Orochi absorbs the energy from their regular laser weapons, GUTS Select counters using more traditional guns and missiles to fight it since their projectiles are physical objects rather than energy. Later on Kengo rams the GUTS Falcon into its horn, destroying it instantly as well.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: More like "Nice Job Breaking it, Anti-Hero!" but this trope comes into play still when Trigger Dark interferes in GUTS Select's fight against Metsu-Orochi by fighting Hudram, causing the monster to break out quicker from its petrified state.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Watching Hudram's bio-weapon, Metsu-Orochi, terrorizing innocents and almost killing people makes Ignis lose it for real as he flashes back to his traumatic past and prompts him to rush into the battlefield as Trigger Dark to stop the kaiju after his attempts at fighting Hudram.
  • Ramming Always Works: Kengo is able to pave the way for Metsu-Orochi's defeat by breaking its horn with the GUTS Falcon by ramming it at full speed.
  • Wham Episode: Trigger Dark and Ignis are for the time separated, with Akito confiscating the Black Sparklence and Hyper Keys, while Ignis is placed under arrest by GUTS Select.
