Episode Title: Suspicious Saints

Tropes:

  • Bad Liar: Matt doesn't even bother trying to lie; he immediately starts panic-corpsing, then straight up admits to Tom that it's not his card after giving his "it's this" answer.
  • Call-Back: Chris does one when Matt tries to think of a collective name of football players, by saying it's a "Ute Muster", Gary calls it a "Boot Muster".
  • Captain Obvious: Tom rambles to himself about Chris convincing him about the TV Show article Tom vaguely remember seeing.
  • Informing the Fourth Wall: Gary points out to the audience that none of the answers for the first round were in any way Paranormal; Gary said Wellington Bomber skydiving, Chris said it's a TV Show (which is later subverted as it's about looking for paranormal occurrences), Matt said a football team in New Zealand.
  • Just Plane Wrong: While there is such thing as a Wellington bomber and it was notable for its method of construction, Gary's description of it as "canvas stretched over wood" seems to be referring to the de Havilland Mosquito. The Wellington had a geodetic airframe.
  • Metagame:
    • Chris picked "Wellington Paranormal" specifically to mess with Tom and make a funny article name.
    • Matt admits upfront in the second round that the card is not his and uses a paper-thin lie as his explanation, and Tom still goes for him.
  • Precision F-Strike: Gary delivers one in the second round when Tom disregarded his answer for "Austol" on the basis of the name being too convenient. Matt was entirely bluffing, and Gary's article was indeed the correct one.
  • Shout-Out: To The Simpsons, although more specifically the "Say the line X" meme.
  • Take That!: Toward Australia, New Zealand, and Football, the former due to Gary making fun of the word for Wellington Boots, and the latter is Matt finding the article about a New Zealand Football team "boring", and them being called the "Wellington Paranormal" is according to Tom; "something they would absolutely do".
  • Visual Gag: Referenced by Tom when applauding Gary for the image of parachuting out of a wellington bomber.
