Tropes

  • D-Cup Distress: Chelsea is considering breast reduction surgery to ease the pain in her back. Charlie, of course, won't stand for it.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Right before going in for the breast reduction surgery, Charlie makes an offhand comment that makes Chelsea realize that if her breasts are smaller, her butt will look bigger. This causes her to bail on the procedure.
  • Informed Attribute: Chelsea's breasts aren't small, but they're certainly not large enough to cause back pain or require reduction surgery. And Charlie's over the top praise for how great her breasts are comes across as silly and forced.
  • It's All About Me: While he tries to be supportive of Chelsea's need for back pain relief when in front of her, Charlie is extremely upset about the possibility of her getting her breasts reduced in size and does whatever he can to try to undermine her desire to get it. A couple times, he's so upset by it he can't even hide it while in front of her. Ultimately manages to get her to not get the surgery by pointing out that her butt will look big. Even though Chelsea is clearly upset by this and will now be living with a certain degree of pain for the rest of her life, Charlie is over the moon about it since he got what he wanted.
  • Once a Season: Once again, Alan has to move out and live elsewhere for a short period of time after a disagreement with Charlie. This time, however, that story is a B-plot, with a majority of the episode being about Chelsea considering breast reduction surgery and Charlie trying to convince her to not get it. Also, this time it's made fairly explicit that it's just a short-term punishment for Alan rather than something that they're pretending might be permanent.
  • Prayer Is a Last Resort: Charlie decides to take his plight to The Man Upstairs when it seems like Chelsea is all set to get the surgery, hoping that she has a last second change of heart.
