Recap / Tuttle Twins S 2 E 3 Bitcoin And The Beast

Go To

Summary: Holy Satoshi! When the twins are forced to choose between accepting dollars and bitcoin at a garage sale, they travel through the internet and a retro video game to learn what makes money well…good.

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • An Aesop: "When money is easy to make, society begins to break."
  • Aesop Amnesia: Karinne, by her own admission, learned nothing about the dangers of inflation in "The Inflation Monster."
  • The Faceless: Satoshi Nakomoto's face is always half covered by something in every shot he's in.
  • Konami Code: Karinne uses it to give herself infinite wealth in Moneycraft.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Elon Musk gets a cameo in a cafe that's literally on the internet. Satoshi Nakomoto appears as The Faceless and is voiced by Christopher Robin Miller. Gabby explains that he disappeared from the internet in 2010.
  • Parody Product Placement: The Tuttles have an old game called Moneycraft.
  • Product Placement: The episode acts as a commercial for Bitcoin, but focuses on it primarily because it was the first true digital currency on the market, and its history is critical to understanding the history and mechanics of digital currency.
  • Race Against the Clock: When the kids end up inside the Moneycraft game, they only have four minutes to beat it—and four minutes and ten seconds to get back to Lyle and Karinne on who gets the game.
  • Second Place Is for Losers: Mr. Tuttle has no qualms about kicking his kids' butts in video games. He claims that if he didn't, that would make them losers in real life.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The boulder antagonist in Moneycraft announces his entry into the room with Kool-Aid Man's, "Oh yeah!"
    • The episode references several memes, including Doge memes, Grumpy Cat and NFTs.
