Recap / Trollz E 3 First Day Of School

Go To

It's the Trollz' first day at Trollzopolis High, and Amethyst gets a special necklace from her mom that used to belong to her grandmother as a good luck charm. When they arrive, though, Ruby is too proud to ask for help getting around, leading them into conflict with the head cheerleader, Coral. Making matters worse is a red dog-like creature they run into named Snarf. Snarf wants them to help find his master no matter what, even if it disrupts their lessons and lives.

Ruby finally caves in and asks Mr. Trollheimer, their homeroom teacher, for help, but Snarf may be an even greater danger than getting lost at school—he transforms from friendly puppy into a rampaging ogre! With the help of Amethyst's necklace, the girls banish him to wherever he came from with the Magic of the Five. They then learn that Obsidian and Mr. Trollheimer know one another somehow, and that Snarf may have only ran away; it isn't easy to get rid of a creature like that for good. Amethyst asks about the master Snarf talked about, but Obsidian says not to worry about him... yet.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Bond One-Liner: By Topaz after the BFFL banish Snarf:
    Topaz: Bye-bye, puppy!
  • Chekhov's Gun: Amethyst's grandmother's necklace given to her by her mother turns out to be a magic artifact in the climax, which the BFFL use to get rid of Snarf.
  • First Day of School Episode: Exactly What It Says on the Tin—specifically, it's the first day of high school for the BFFL.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Coral and her Girl Posse, Opal and Jade, use magic to poof up some late passes for the BFFL when they're having trouble finding their first class, but when Principal Trollercrombie finds the girls and sees their late passes, he says that the passes that Coral, Opal and Jade aren't real and that you can only get late passes from the office. While the principal is kind enough to let the BFFL off with a warning (and is also nice enough to actually help them find their first class), he ultimately chews out Coral, Opal and Jade for what they did and even punishes them by giving them detention.
  • Never My Fault: Coral ultimately blames the BFFL for her and her friends getting in trouble, even though the BFFL honestly had no idea that the late passes were bogus (which they made clear to Principal Trollercrombie).
  • Not a Morning Person: Onyx, Topaz and Sapphire show hints of this, with the middle being the best example.
  • One-Winged Angel: Snarf goes from cute puppy to a huge, rampaging beast.
  • The Power of Friendship: The BFFL use a spell from the necklace Amethyst's grandma gave her to send Snarf away, with the Magic of the Five.
What we five friends couldn't do alone, we'll do together, for together we've grown! With help from magic still unknown, magic from the heart of this sacred stone!
  • Ring-Ring-CRUNCH!: During the montage of the BFFLs waking up, Topaz sleepily uses her slipper as a phone before using it to knock her alarm clock off the shelf.
  • Transformation Sequence: Snarf gets one as he hulks out.
  • Wham Line: Snarf when the girls deny finding his "master".
Snarf: I guess...if you're not with me... YOU'RE AGAINST ME!!
