The Crystal Spire, the world's tallest building, catches fire and proves too much for local firefighters who call in International Rescue.

Tropes

  • Alliterative Name: Not quite but close: Cass McCready.
  • Asshole Victim: It's been Howard Yost's life's work to build the world's tallest building. It's easy not to feel bad for him however when he specifies to McCready that he wants her to save the building forgetting about the people whose lives are in danger.
  • Black Boss Lady: Cass McCready is the chief firefighter.
  • Broad Strokes: The episode adapts elements from the Thunderbirds episode City Of Fire.
  • Humble Hero: When the fire proves too intense and their equipment insufficient, Chief McCready readily asks International Rescue for assistance without any trace of disdain.
  • Missing Episode: The episode was not aired in the UK and not included in the DVD release due to similarities in the story with the events of the Grenfell Tower fire incident.
  • Mythology Gag: Virgil's painting Alan when the call for help comes in, referencing a bit from an episode in the original show. Here it becomes a chance for Virgil to get even with Alan for trashing Thunderbird 2 during the rescue, instead of prompting Alan to get even with Virgil to wasting his time.
  • Outside-the-Box Tactic: Thunderbird 2 can't get close enough to the tower to get the civilians in and breaking the glass roof poses too much of a risk to the civilians. Thus Alan proposes taking off the roof.
  • Star Scraper: Yost calls the Crystal Spire exactly this.
