"Love has only fucked up my life, has made me question my relationships, my closest friends. And God knows, love has made my closest friends question me, so you know what? Fuck love."

Clays talks about Valentine's Day and the school preparing for what they call the Love Is Love dance. When he arrives at school, he sees cameras have been installed everywhere and he becomes even more paranoid. He then begins receiving disturbing phone calls from Monty's number, each one seeming to torment him in a strange voice. Clay's distraction causes him to miss Ani's not so subtle hints for him to ask her to the dance.

Clay has another panic attack in the dark room when he gets another phone call. Later on in the cafeteria, the caller tells Clay he needs to pick a fight. He approaches Zach and asks him to hit him. Zach, obviously not understanding what's going on, tries to leave however Clay starts calling him names. Zach finally kicks Clay in the crotch and tells him to sort his life out.

At one of the activist meetings, Jessica asks the group if they'd like to go to the dance together as a group. However, the idea doesn't go down well as the group all have dates. Apart from Jessica and Ani.

Winston and Alex begin to hang out more and more. They go bowling and Alex asks Winston to go to the dance with him. Only as a 'social commentary purpose'. Winston agrees and they kiss.

Jessica decides to ask Alex to the dance however he rejects her, replying that she only wants to know him when she needs something. Jessica points out that Alex hadn't spoken to her properly since Thanksgiving to which Alex says she reminds him of the night of Bryce's murder. They talk things through and Alex suggests Jessica just goes alone.

Tony asks Tyler why he's been avoiding the group to which Tyler says he's been focusing on his school work. Tyler is called to the office and Tony follows to see what's happening. He gets stopped by a resource officer in the corridor called Ted Wynn. He says that he wants to offer Tony an opportunity at his independent boxing league, East County Pro-Am. Tony finds out that Tyler has actually been visiting the principal and not the school counsellor as originally thought.

Clay eventually realises he'd completely missed the chance to ask Ani to the dance. He tries to rectify his mistake by asking her in the form of a letter drawn out in the comic book style they both like. The moment is ruined when he receives a photo of himself, taken by someone else. He realises he's being stalked. He dials the number and tracks it to a girl sat in the library. As he screams at her to stop messing around, she sits shocked as she's on the phone to her mother. Ani shoos Clay out, apologising to the girl. He tells her that he's been receiving random phone calls from Monty's phone and they're threatening to reveal Monty's innocence. Ani reassures Clay that they have no proof so he shouldn't let them get the better of him.

In the football locker room, Jessica gives a speech on the importance of the team setting an example to the rest of the school. When one of the players starts being rude, Diego shuts him down and tells him to listen to the lady. Jessica however tells Diego that he's also being disrespectful. She later asks Charlie to go to the dance with her and he agrees albeit uncomfortably.

Justin speaks to Coach Kebra about Zach. Kebra advises Justin attend a Narcotics Anonymous meeting that is catered more towards younger people. Justin agrees and turns up there to see Kebra is also in attendance.

Clay meets with Tony at the mall and is informed about Tyler's meetings with the Principal. He's also been lying about his shifts. Tony believes that Deputy Standall would have something to do with it. When Tyler arrives for his shift, he asks them why they're there and what the urgency is to see him. Tyler tells them that he's fed up with them keeping tabs on him.

Clay receives another call in school the following day. The voice tells him that they can prove his alibi with Ani is false and that they weren't together the night Bryce died. He gives Clay a clue about where Monty's phone is which leads him to Jessica's activist club. The phone Clay finds turns out to be a dud. The voice tells him that if he shows up to the dance, he'll get the phone.

Later on in therapy, Clay tells Dr. Ellman that he doesn't believe in love. Ellman asks him about Hannah but Clay says he didn't really know her and that it was a fantasy. Dr. Ellman says he thinks that Clay loves too fiercely and that Clay is afraid of getting hurt.

At the Love Is Love dance, Jessica arrives with Charlie on her arm. However, Diego approaches her and knowing it would make Justin even more jealous, Jessica ditches Charlie to dance with Diego instead. Clay and Ani dance together and kiss however the moment is once again ruined when Clay gets another call. The caller tells him to kiss Ani one last time and to go to the locker room immediately. Clay agrees and leaves, despite Ani warning him not to. As she goes to follow, Ani gets distracted herself by Winston and Alex kissing.

Tyler shows up to the dance to help out Tony. He leaves shortly after getting a phone call and as he goes, Tony follows him. He sees Tyler get into Deputy Standall's car.

Clay gets to the locker room to see the walls stained with what looks to be blood and a knife on the floor. The voice on the call says it won't look to be caught at the scene of a crime. He panics and turns the showers on but instead of running water, 'blood' comes out of the heads. Clay panics and sinks to the floor however he manages to regain control and and takes the knife to the football field. The voice tells him that "you found me" and Clay sees Monty lying in the centre, bleeding out. Clay tries to stop the bleeding but Monty dies. Clay screams that he's sorry and finds Bryce who calls him a monster. However, when Clay looks down, his hallucination stops and standing around him are the school's football team. Diego reveals himself as the leader and tells Clay that his reaction was over the top for someone who's innocent. He tells him that they now own him before returning to the dance.

Later on, Justin arrives at the dance and sees Jessica dancing with Diego. He tries to stop her but she rejects him, saying that she's lonely. Clay enters the hall, covered in the fake blood and holding the knife.
