Go To

"Game Night" is the twentieth episode of The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse.

Mickey tries to spice up his friends' weekly game night by creating a giant (and dangerous) board for them to play on.

Tropes:

  • Brutal Honesty: When Donald offers the opportunity to win, Daisy bluntly points that he never wins.
  • Dropped-in Speech Clip: During Donald's Imagine Spot of him replacing Mickey, Walt Disney is heard saying his famous quote that "It was all started by a mouse"... except it's interrupted towards the end by Donald saying "...by a duck!".
  • "Facing the Bullets" One-Liner: Parodied; Donald shouts "Come and get me!" as he's about to jump into barrage of flying pies.
  • Friend-or-Idol Decision: When Mickey is hanging from a cliff with Donald close to the finish line, he considers leaving him there and finally being a winner. But when he realizes the pie projectiles are firing at him and not Mickey, he gets him up and urges him to cross, declaring "It's me they want".
  • Human Shield: Minnie, Donald and Daisy form a wall to protect Mickey from being hit with giant pies on the way to the finish line.
  • Imagine Spot: When Donald realizes the possibility of winning the game before Mickey, he imagines himself taking the mouse's place in various moments from his long career.
  • Pass the Popcorn: After getting knocked off the board during the final round, Goofy watches the others go while sitting on a lawn chair and eating popcorn.
  • Pie in the Face: Throughout the game, Donald repeatedly hit with pies in increasingly unlikely ways. After the game was finished, the male duck tosses one at Mickey after the male mouse suggests redoing the game night.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Donald gets red irises when he selfishly tries to sprint for the finish line at Mickey's expense.
  • Running Gag: Donald getting pelted with pies.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The game's design is primarily based on Candy Land, with elements of Mouse Trap, Chutes and Ladders and Battleship mixed in.
    • In one part of the game, Mickey and his friends drive around in racecars whole avoiding banana peels.
    • A giant Jenga tower and Tetris blocks also appear within the game.
    • During Donald's dream sequence, he is shown taking Mickey's place in scenes from Steamboat Willie and Fantasia. He is also seen giving a speech in front of a giant portrait of himself a la Citizen Kane.
